Learn all about Ignition Coils at This video is of a 2001 Toyota Tundra 3.4L with 200,000+ miles on the factory ignition coils. It has a bad ignition misfire causing the engine to run terrible. It turned on the "check engine light" on the dashboard, and the misfire gets far worse whenever it rains outside. As you can see in the video, the ignition coils are sparking externally against the valve cover. Every time there is a spark that you can see externally, the spark plug doesn't receive it, and the engine "misfires". Spraying the coils down with water makes the situation worse, but the diagnosis very easy.
