Hi. I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how to video helps you out. The next time you need parts for your vehicle think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks. In this video we're going to show you how to service a headlight on this 2004 Volvo XC90. It is a pretty easy operation to replace the headlights. You don't need any tools. If you're looking to change a bulb on the outer bulb you will just need a Phillips screwdriver.
Pop the hood, pull the lever right down in here, and there's a little tab you reach under right here. Pull that up, pull your hood up. On each side it's really easy. There are two tabs, pull up. You're going to have to work them back and forth a little bit. Pull them up. Then your headlight assembly moves forward. Your bulbs are right here. Some of the smaller bulbs you twist and turn clockwise pull them out. These little bulbs just pull out. Push back in. Put that back in. Twist it clockwise. Same thing for this one over here, counter clockwise, pull it out, and put it back in.
This inside headlight, pull that rubber front off. Right in here you'll see the connector, twist it back and forth and pull it off. There is a wire retainer, push the top of it in and over. I it comes down. Take out the light bulb. When you put it back in, you want this tab to be at the top. Put it back in, push the tab on, and lock it into place. Turn this back on, put the rubber back on.
For this bulb, you'll want to remove this little Philips screw here, then this twist out and off. You can twist this counter clockwise. Pull the bulb out, and then disconnect the harness. The bulb, reconnect it. The bulb back in place. Clockwise to lock it. Put the cover back on. Phillips screw back in. Now if you need to replace the whole assembly, because yours has been broken, you'll find the connector right down here. You'll want to take this connector hole up on this reddish-brown part. You'll push up from the bottom here to get it started. As you pull here, pull up on that, and it comes apart. You can remove your entire assembly.
To show you that better, here's the connector itself. You can see it has the other connector has a couple of tabs here that go in, as you push it in, then you push this down, and you can see it locks. Same thing as you're pulling them apart. You can start it by pushing on this part here, get it started, and then pull it apart, and lift up on that at the same time.
New assembly from 1A Auto, a couple of things to note. There are seven meter adjusters here, adjuster there. Then you take this rubber boot off, and there's an adjuster right down in here. First take your harness, we'll pull the locking mechanism up. Connect it. Push down as you push it together. Lock it in. Put the assembly in. Put that into place. Push it in. It's got a rubber gasket here so you'll probably have to push in a little bit. Hold it, put the first one down in there. To go in the right place you'll probably have to push on the bottom a little bit. Push all the way in. It's nice and snug, same thing here. Push in a little bit to get in down in right down on. Pull that right off.

The assemblies (right and left) came with bulbs...but I replaced the low and high beam bulbs with brighter bulbs. The fit was snug but thanks to the video, I knew what to expect to get them installed...took a bit of pushing so I could slide in the braces. New lights look great!
