Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to do an oil change on this 2008 Dodge Caliber with a 2-liter engine. The items you'll need for this is a 16mm socket and ratchet, an oil filter wrench, a drip pan, a rag, jack and jack stands, oil, oil filter, and a funnel.
Raise the vehicle and secure it with jack stands. Your drain plug is right here on the center of your oil pan. Use a 16mm wrench to remove it. Make sure you have a drip pan underneath, and just let all your oil drain out. Once it stops coming out, replace that drain plug and just tighten it back up.
To the left of your drain pan is an oil filter. Use an oil filter wrench to break it loose, and then just twist it out the rest of the way. You do want to make sure you have a drip pan underneath it because there is some oil behind that filter. Use a rag to clean up the area.
Take your new oil filter and some fresh oil, and just wipe around the ring. Then twist your new oil filter up into place. Go until it stops spinning that's when the gasket seats. Then tighten it another 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn.
Now remove your oil fill cap and, using a funnel, replace the oil. You can find in your user manual how much oil and what type of oil your vehicle needs. This one called for 5W30 and 4 1/2 quarts. Now remove the funnel and replace your fill cap. Then you want to start the vehicle and let it run for a second. Then pull out your dip stick, wipe it clean, push it all the way back in, pull it out again and check. Ours is right where it needs to be.
Now, when you start your vehicle after a second, you'll still see that change oil message pop up, right there. To get that message to stop, you just want to put the key in and turn it forward like you're going to start the vehicle and pump the gas pedal three times. That will reset that.
