Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we'll show you how to change the oil in this 2005 Hyundai Elantra. We do it on a lift. Obviously that just makes it a whole lot easier to film. You don't need a lift, but a jack and jack stands will probably help to get under there and get the drain plug. You'll need a wrench for the drain plug, a catch pan to catch the oil, and a new oil and oil filter wrench and an oil filter for your vehicle.
You want to locate your drain plug bolt on the back end of your oil pan here right here 17mm. My drain pan in place, I'm going to remove the drain plug and letting the engine run to get your oil a little warm it will flow out better you'll get more oil out. We'll put the drain plug back in for now.
Then we're going to do the oil filter, and then we'll drain it again when we are done with that. And I'm going to use an oil filter wrench because this is adjustable, you can get this at any auto part store. Do that again, hold it up a little higher. Okay, I've located the oil filter that is on the front in the engine near the oil pan, and in order to get it off, I'm going to use a universal oil filter wrench. Slide it around the filter and work the filter off counterclockwise with my drain pan below. I'm going to clean the surface where the oil filter goes. Make sure there is no debris.
I'm just going to dab my finger with some little oil just coming down. Higher, and I'm going to coat the new ring that's going to go onto the oil filter, put it up and in like that.
I'm taking out the drain pug one more time just to finish getting anything else that might be left in there. I'm putting the drain plug back in and making sure that my washer is in place. Tightening down. We are going to have four quartz of 5W30.

If you have a lug nut that won't quite tighten all the way on a stud, you may be tempted to fill the gap with washers. Dont! Andy explains why in this video!
