Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to service the front differential on this 2002 Chevy Suburban. The items you'll need for this are a 14mm and 15mm socket and ratchet, a drip pan, and gear oil.
Right here is a pan held in with four 15mm bolts, just want to go ahead and remove those. Once that bolt's removed, you can pull the pan down. On the driver's side, behind the front wheel right here, is your front differential. The top bolt is the fill plug, and to help speed up the draining process you want to remove this first. It is a 15mm bolt.
Now remove the drain plug, which is 14mm. You want to make sure you have your drip pan underneath it. Now just let the fluid drain out. As you can see, this bolt has a lot of sediment on it from inside the differential. You want to make sure you wipe that off and clean it up. When it stops draining, replace the drain plug and tighten it up.
Now, to make it easier to refill, we use a clean piece of tube, but you don't have to do this. If you can manage to get the bottle in there, you can just squirt it in my squeezing the gear oil bottle. But this just makes it a little bit easier.
You want to fill it until it starts overflowing the fill cap, as you can see it's starting to do right now. See, it's overflowing, so it's all set, and you just replace the fill cap and tighten it up. Now put the pan back into place and replace those four 15mm bolts and you're all set.
