How to drain, change, and fill your old or dirty oil and oil filter on 08 Cadillac CTS

step 1 :Draining the Oil
- Raise the vehicle on jack stands
- Have a drain pan ready
- Remove the 1/4 inch bolt from the drain
- Drain the oil
- Twist on the 15mm drain bolt
- Tighten the bolt with a 15mm wrench or socket and ratchet

step 2 :Removing the Oil Filter
- Have a drain pan ready
- Remove the oil filter with an oil filter wrench
- Clean the area with a rag

step 3 :Installing the Oil Filter
- Place a layer of oil around the rim of the oil filter
- Twist the oil filter into place
- Torque the oil filter cover to 25 Newton Meters

step 4 :Servicing the Oil
- Remove the oil cap
- Place a funnel into the oil fill
- Replace the oil to the recommended amount
- Replace the oil cap
- Start the vehicle
- Let the engine run for a few seconds
- Turn the vehicle off
- Check the oil level with the dipstick
- Scroll through the menu with the arrow buttons on the steering wheel to find the oil light
- Hold the arrow button down
- Confirm to reset the oil light

In this video we will be changing the oil in the 2008 Cadillac CTS4. If you need parts for your vehicle click the link in this description and head over to 1AAuto.com. So in your vehicle, you may have a shield that goes over here.
On this vehicle, we do not have a shield. It may be held in with 10 millimeter bolts all around. So keep that in mind. We'll wheel a drain bucket over. I'm going to take a 15 millimeter wrench and loosen up the drain plug. It's lined up. Pull the drain plug out. Let it drain out. Put our drain plug back in. These are 15 millimeter wrench. You just going to snug it up a little bit. Not too much. I'm going to take a rag and wipe the excess oil away. Looks good.
I'm going pull this cover off. Take this oil cap off. Lift on the cover, and pull it out. Our oil filter is right here. We're going to take this filter out. We use a 15/16 socket extension ratchet. Loosen it up. I'm going to pull this housing out. Flip it up. Take our fluid filter out. Just pull straight up.
Before I put a new filter on, there's an O-ring right here. I can take two fingers and push it together. You can use a right-angle pick. Get underneath there. Twist it out. Keep in mind that, that O-ring was in this groove, closest to this wall of the housing. You do not want to put the O-ring in this groove, otherwise it will leak oil everywhere. So take the new O-ring and slip it on. Make sure it's in that groove like I said and then take the filter. It doesn't matter which way it goes, up or down. Just push it on till it locks in. And it's good to put it back in the car. All right.
We're going to reinstall this. Reverse socket and an extension. So you don't want to tighten this too much. The torque spec is actually 25 Newton meters, so just snug. So we use the torque wrench. You don't have to. Just snug it up, not too tight.
We're going to put our funnel in. And let's start pouring in our oil. This car takes a synthetic 5W-30 oil, full synthetic. So this 3.6 liter engine requires about 7.2 quarts of oil. Pull the funnel. Check my oil one more time. As you can see the oil is up to the hash-marks, so that is good. It was down at the lower end of the dipstick you would have to add oil. Install.
Reinstall our cover. Slide it on. Push it down and install our cap. So we're going to go reset the oil light. You're going to hit the little eye button with the car and that will bring you to where it says oil life remaining. This one's 53%. And then we're going to take the checkbox. We're going to hold down on the check. And then it went to 100%.
