Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to do an oil change on this 2003 Mercury Mountaineer with the 4.6-liter V8 engine. That items that you'll need for this include a 16mm wrench, a drip pan, oil filter wrench, oil, and an oil filter.
You should run your vehicle for a little bit and then turn it off. This will help the oil to drain.
Right here is your drain plug. Using your 16mm wrench, loosen it up. Make sure you have a drip pan underneath that plug. When your pull it free, your oil will drain. Once it stops draining, replace the drain plug and tighten it back up. Wipe down the area.
Now your oil filter is located right here. Using an oil filter wrench, just loosen it up and remove it. You want to make sure you have a drip pan right underneath where those two bolts where Mike's arm is. You can see the oil comes down and drains out right there. The oil filter wrench that we used is not ideal. Preferably you want this style that you just use a ratchet with. Just going to wipe down the area.
Take your new oil filter and fill it up with some fresh oil. Take some of that oil and just wipe it around that o-ring. Then feed the filter back up into place and twist it in until it's tight. Generally, you want to get the filter twisted until it stops, and then twist it another quarter to a third of a turn.
Come back up top and just wipe down your dipstick and set it aside. Then remove this cap. We're going to use a funnel. You don't have to but it just makes less mess. This vehicle calls for six quarts of 5W20. Once we're done filling that up we'll just put the dipstick in and check it.
We're over the minimum line but just barely so we'll add that final quart. Then start your vehicle, let the oil run through. Then just check it again. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, put it back in, and then just check it. We're all set. Now just replace your oil cap.
