How To Change Oil Yourself on Chrysler Town Country 5th Gen 2008-16

Created on: 2020-12-23

In this video, Andy shows you how to perform a complete oil and filter change on a 2008-16 Chrysler Town & Country equipped with the 3.6 liter engine.

In this video, we're gonna be doing an oil change on this fifth-generation Chrysler Town and Country.

Now, this vehicle has the 3.6-liter VVT engine. If your vehicle doesn't have this exact engine, the procedure should be very similar. We're gonna raise and support the vehicle. The oil pan is located on the passenger side of the vehicle, and the drain plug is right here in the back. Gonna use a 13-millimeter wrench, loosen that drain plug up. Make sure you have a drain bucket underneath and drain the oil.

Now, the oil's all drained out, take the drain plug, and put it back in, and snug it up. It's good. We're just gonna remove this cover. Just grab underneath, and slide it up. It's secured right here and here. The oil filter housing is located right here. And I'm gonna use a 24-millimeter socket and ratchet, and loosen up the housing. If you need more room, you could take this air snorkel off. And slide this out. I'm gonna take the filter out. Just grab the filter. Take it out of the cap. This is an O-ring that goes around the cap. Just use a pick. Just take that O-ring off just like that.

We have a new O-ring. Put the new O-ring on. It's okay if it gets oil on it. It's actually gonna help seal it better. That's good. Take the new filter, and just slide it, lock it in place. You can put a little oil on the end of that O-ring as well. And you can torque that to 25-newton-meters. Not very tight at all. The oil cap's located right here, and on the oil cap normally says what type of oil to use. This happens to be 5W-20. And we're gonna use a funnel so we don't spill, and use the appropriate oil. Now, this being the 3.6-liter engine, this vehicle takes 5.9 quarts of oil. So double-check with your owner's manual to see how much oil your vehicle takes and the appropriate type.

Now, I'm gonna start the engine, and let it run for about 10 seconds. Now, I shut it down. Let it sit for about a minute. And now, we'll check the oil level. Just check the dipstick. We're gonna wipe it off first with a rag, and then pull it out again. So, we want it in that safe zone right there. So, I need to add about a half a quart to get it to where it needs to be. Now take this cover, and line it up, and push it back down. It's secure.

To perform the engine reset procedure you're gonna take the key, turn the key to the on position without starting the vehicle, step on the accelerator pedal three times, and shut the key off. That's how you change the oil on this Chrysler Town and Country.
