step 1 :Checking the Brake Fluid
- Twist off the brake fluid cap
- Check the brake fluid with a flashlight
- Check that the level is between the minimum and maximum lines
- Check that the brake fluid is clear
- If the fluid is dark or murky, drain and refill it
- Twist on the brake fluid cap

step 2 :Checking the Oil
- Pull out the oil dipstick
- Wipe off the oil dipstick
- Reinstall the oil dipstick
- Pull out the oil dipstick
- Check the oil level
- Reinstall the oil dipstick
- If the oil is low, twist off the oil cap
- Add oil as necessary
- Twist on the oil cap

step 3 :Checking the Transmission Fluid
- Run the engine
- Put the transmission into park
- Make sure the engine has reached operating temperature
- Release the transmission dipstick tab with a flat blade screwdriver
- Pull out the transmission fluid dipstick
- Wipe off the dipstick
- Reinstall the dipstick
- Pull out the dipstick
- Check the fluid level
- Add fluid through the dipstick tube as necessary
- Install the dipstick
- Clip on the dipstick tab

step 4 :Filling the Washer Fluid
- Open the washer fluid cap
- Fill the washer reservoir to the top

step 5 :Checking the Coolant
- Make sure the engine is cold
- Twist off the radiator cap
- Check the fluid level
- Twist on the radiator cap
- Twist off the coolant reservoir cap
- Check the coolant level with a flashlight
- Add coolant to the reservoir as necessary
- Twist on the coolant reservoir cap

Looking under the hood of your Rogue, you'll find your brake fluid reservoir just behind the battery here, the cap for your radiator, your transmission dipstick, engine oil dipstick, oil fill cap, washer fluid reservoir, and coolant overflow tank. You'll notice this vehicle does not have a power steering reservoir, and that's because the power steering on this car is assisted with an electric motor and not a hydraulic pump.
Remove the cap on your brake fluid reservoir and put a flashlight on top. It's a lot easier to see the condition and level of the fluid if you do. Now the main things we're looking for here is that the brake fluid is between the minimum and maximum lines. As long as it's not below the minimum line, you do not want to add fluid to a break reservoir unless all four brake calipers have been compressed as fluid pools behind the pistons to fill in that space as your brake pads wear out. You'll also want to make sure your fluid is about the color of green tea. If it's really dark or has any contaminants in it, you'll want to flush it out. Ours is a little bit darker than I'd like to see, but not bad, so we'll reinstall our cap.
To check your oil, remove the dipstick, wipe it off completely with a clean paper towel, reinstall it fully, remove it, and check the level. These two dots indicate one quart. Ours is right at the top, so our engine oil is nice and full. If it's at this line, that means you need to add one quart to get to this dot. If it's below that line, add one full quart and check again. If it's anywhere on here, you can add another full quart. Otherwise, you'll end up somewhere in the middle here. Use your best judgment to top it off from there. If your oil is low you'll want to refill it through the oil cap here.
Your transmission dipstick works very much the same way. You'll need a small screwdriver or pick to push down on the tab and remove the dipstick. To make things easy, you remove it, wipe it off, you want to reinstall it 180 degrees away from where you removed it that way that tab doesn't engage. You can remove it and check it again. It works just like your oil dipstick. The only difference is you'll want to do this when the vehicle is running in park and at operating temperature. If the fluid is low you can use a skinny funnel to refill it there. This is for a CVT, or constantly variable transmission, make sure that you know whether your vehicle is CVT or regular automatic before adding the wrong fluid and risking serious damage.
Open your washer fluid cap and fill this reservoir to capacity.
Check that there's fluid in your radiator. Only do this when the vehicle is cold. If it is hot there's a good bit of pressure in there and it will spray hot fluid everywhere and you could get hurt. Push down and rotate it counterclockwise two clicks. There's plenty of fluid in our radiator so we'll reinstall it by aligning the tabs, pushing down, and rotating it two clicks clockwise.
After making sure there's fluid in your radiator you'll want to ensure there's fluid in the reservoir as well. Once again, this one is pretty clear, but it's always easier to drop a flashlight on the opening. We're right at our maximum line so there's no need to top it off. If you do, fill it from here.
