Hey, everyone. It's Lynn from 1A Auto. Today I'm going to be showing you a couple things on this vehicle. But what I want to start off with is showing you how to check your brake fluid. It's very simple.
We're going to come right over here. Underneath the cowl, you're going to see a little cap right here with the reservoir. This is your brake fluid reservoir. There's a level indicator. You can see where it says "Max". You can see where it says "Minimum". There's two lines. We want to try to get that fluid up to where the maximum is. So, we're going to check the cap while it's on. We're going to see what it says for what type of brake fluid to use.
This one right here says "DOT 3". So, we're going to make sure that we use DOT 3 brake fluid. You don't want to use DOT 5. DOT 3 is hygroscopic. DOT 5 is hydrophobic. Hygroscopic means it will absorb moisture. So you want to make sure that when you remove this cap, it's not in a rainy situation or an extremely humid day.
And if it does happen to be, you want to make sure you do it as quick as possible. So, we'll remove it. Take a look at the inside of the cap. Make sure that the seal looks good. This one looks great. We're going to move along. See if we can see inside. Looks like the fluid's very low. It's not even close to the maximum line.
So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to add a little bit of fluid to this. Using our sealed DOT 3 container, we want to make that the cap's always on it when we're not using it. We're just going to try to get a little bit of fluid in. Get it up to the maximum line. Just a little bit at a time. Making sure that you have some sort of clean rag near you. Looks like a little bit more.
Might be hard to see. And it is. Looks like it's getting close now. I think that looks pretty great. We're going to use a rag when we go to remove this funnel. DOT 3 brake fluid will eat the paint off your car if you leave it on there. So we'll hold that. Now, we're going to make sure that we close this up nice and tight. And now we've successfully added or topped off our brake fluid.
