How to check coolant on 07 Honda Accord
Flashlight
Anti-Freeze
Hi. I'm Mike from 1A Auto. We've been selling auto parts for over 30 years.
Hi, everyone. Sue here from 1A Auto, and today I have an '07 Honda Accord in shop with a 2.4 liter. We're going to talk about coolant.
So the radiator is located, obviously, in the front of the vehicle, in front of the engine, and this vehicle has the overflow tank right here located mounted between the two fans. You have the A/C fan and your cooling fan. The overflow tank has a minimal and a maximum level. Min is usually when it's cold, so that means the car has not been running.
The car system is a vacuum operated the way coolant works, because coolant expands and contracts. So minimal means that it's cold, and if you've been driving for a couple hours and you come out and open your hood, it should be up on the max line. If it's down on the minimal after a couple hours of driving, that means you're low on coolant. Just open the overflow tank and fill it in here--not the radiator.
Another thing to look at is do a quick exam at your car. If your overflow tank cover is cracked like this one, that's a good indication that this is not working properly, because it works on a vacuum. If you have a leak, a broken hose, it can't build up the vacuum pressure, so therefore it cannot take the overflow or vacuum it back in. So that's a key to look at and diagnose that yourself.
And like always, never open your radiator cap if the car has been running. Only check that if the car is cold, and by cold I mean first thing in the morning would be a great time to check your coolant level for the tank side. Just take the cap right off and then give it a visual. You can always test your coolant. Buy a tester and see what the glycose and the ethylene glycose level is, and go from there.
