Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. We've been selling auto parts for over 30 years.
What's up, guys? I'm Andy from 1A Auto. Have you ever had a wiper situation where one of your wipers is working and the other one is not? Maybe in the wintertime, you had snow on your windshield, started your car, and now your wipers aren't working properly? I'm going to show you how to adjust or fix this problem. If you need parts for your vehicle, click the link in the description and head over to 1aauto.com.
Okay. With the hood up, I can access the cover for the wiper arm. You can use a straight blade screwdriver—get underneath here. Unlock that. You can actually see whether you have a broken motor, or whether it's just the bolt is loose on the wiper arm. Just grab the arm. You just go back and forth. If the nut stays in position, then it's just your wiper arm has loosened up, and you have to—sometimes you remove it, and you're going to have to clean the threads out. And then sometimes, you can just snug the bolt—the nut back up. At this point, we're just going to take the nut off.
Use a 15mm socket and ratchet. Loosen this up. Pull that nut off. You can grab the wiper arm. Just pull it up. And we're going to disconnect the washer hose. Just grab the washer hose and pull it up. Then we can pull the arm out. You can check inside the arm and see how the threads are. Some of the lines, the grooves in them—there're not really many, which is okay. If this is worn down very bad, you may have to replace the arm, but it's a good idea to at least check and see if we can just tighten it up.
There're some grooves on the wiper transmission, right here. So these grooves on the wiper transmission actually have some of the aluminum from the wiper arm itself in there. So, you could take a pick and just try to clean some of these grooves out. Or you could take a wire brush and just wire brush it a little bit. Just scrape some of this stuff out. It's going to help it tighten up better when you go to reinstall it. This one's pretty good.
You can take the wiper arm. You want to make sure the transmission is in the parked position. So, before we shut the key off, we cycled the wiper arm to the parked position, so the passenger's side one is working properly. So, we know that's in the right position. Reinstall the arm. And there's a little tab on the windshield, so you can find the location where you should put the arm. Position that.
We'll take the nut. Reinstall the nut. Take the 15mm socket and the ratchet. You can use an extension to help out if you need to—if you don't have a ratchet with a flex head. Get this snug. Just tighten it a little bit more. Just like that. And then you push the cover back down. Lock it in place, and then take the washer fluid hose and just slide that back over the nozzle. It's good.
Now, if you turn the wipers back on, make sure they work properly. That looks pretty good.
