How to change a flat and put on your spare tire on 2009 Honda Civic.
Lug Wrench
Floor Jack
Hi. I'm Mike from 1AAuto. We've been selling auto parts for over 30 years!
You need to put the spare tire on your Civic? We'll go in the trunk, lift up the compartment. Your jack and your tools, and your jack handle are here. Underneath – you can actually take this whole tray out – is your spare tire. I’m just going to turn it loose. It’s unscrewed. I'll just put that over here. Take the spare tire right out.
So I've got our jack and our tools. This is our jack handle, this is our lug wrench. I'm going to break these free before I put it up in the air. If these are really stuck on there you can stand up and put your foot on this, like that one. Carefully step on it.
We're going to line up our scissor jack. This little groove here is going to sit right here in the pinch weld. So you can actually turn it up with your hand to get it started. You want to make sure you do this on as level ground as you can and try to pull as far off the road as you can, if you get a flat while you're on the highway. If you can, try to pull into a parking lot. Somewhere where you're away from traffic. So I'm going to take our jack handle and turn it a little bit so I can hook it in there. This end goes in here and you're going to turn it. I'm going to lift this so it's just high enough to get the tire off. If that looks good you can actually take this handle and just kind of -- it's off the ground. You don't really want to put your hand under there. You can finish taking the lugs off. All right, the lugs off so the wheel's going to come right off.
You’re going to put that aside, put it in your trunk, whatever you're going to do. Take our temporary spare, place it in place. Take a lug nut wrench, tighten it down. You're probably not going to have a torque wrench on the side of the road so just get these started and as tight as you can while it's off the ground and then we'll snug it back up after we lower the jack.
You should always follow the recommendations for the spare tire. It's only meant to go a certain distance and a certain speed. It's basically just meant to get you to a safe place where you can have your other tire replaced or repaired. I'm going to lower the jack and just make sure those are nice and tight. You don't have to lower this completely. Just get it loose enough. You can take it out of here, throw it in the trunk and close it back up later. Now we've got the tire on the ground we'll take our lug wrench, just make sure these are tight. I'm going in a cross pattern. Now you can get off the road and get to a safe place.
