Hi, I am Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money preparing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20 plus years' experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts and install correctly. That's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.

In this video we will be removing the door panel on a 2001 Chevy S10 pick up. It's pretty much the same as an S10, S15 GMC, and even the same as Blazer and Jimmy. On our truck we'll be using a manual window, door panel. Same as if you have power windows and door locks and stuff you just need to obviously unplug those accessories. Once you know how to do it, it's not overly complicated. You need a window crank removal tool if you have a manual windows, or two paper clips and I'll show you how to do that. A Phillips screwdriver, a door-panel-clip removal tool or putty knife and a regular screwdriver, and a 7mm socket and driver, no substitutions on that one, though.

Okay. The first step is to remove your manual window crank and I'm doing here with the proper tool and I'll show you the paper clip method quick version. If you want the detailed version we do have another video on it, but here is the paper clip version: it pops right off. After that it's removed then we'll remove three screws. There's this screw here next to the door handle. And there's two screws here underneath the armrest which is I'm showing to you here now. Okay. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove that first screw underneath the door panel, and got to pull the door handle back out of the way to get to it. There actually, next to the door lock there is a little clip on this bezel. You'll see, you pull the front of it out and then it will come off the clip. Okay. Then when you kind of wrestle it off of there you can turn your attention to the 7mm bolts that is under the armrest. Okay. Removing those, and removing them and removing them some more.

Dropping them into - there is the bolt. Then the rear one. Okay, now it's pretty much loose. Okay, because it's kind of out of order, just showing you the paper clip removal again. Okay. Now, just show you the back side before we remove, just to see where all the clips are. These are all the pins that going to the door that you'll have to remove. It's either your correct tool or your putty knife and screwdriver. See those about ten clips in all. Okay, so what I'm going to do with here is I'm putting the putty knife in between the panel and the door, and feeling for a clip. Then, put the screwdriver in and give it a quick pop. Okay. You just repeat that for all the clips, you can't just yank the door because you will break the plastic on the door panel. You basically feel for the clip and then pop it with the screw driver.

We've removed all the clips and there is the top one near the mirror. Then to get the door panel off, you pull out some and you basically pull it up, off the window ledge. I'll move the camera there; the door panel comes up and off. Now if you have power windows or whatever, you would unplug all the switches at this point. Now, to put the door panel back on- you get the top, push the top in and then down, onto the ledge, got to work there in between the leather strips there a little bit. You'll see it will go pop down. Okay. Make sure it's all on correctly. Now here you want to make sure that you get the pins all in place. This door panel had been removed before and somebody had some kind of jammed in on there and some of the pins had bent out of place. Basically what I'm trying to do is one at a time, top to bottom, get those pins to go in the holes correctly. You can see I'm having a little bit of trouble with that that paired one down. I'm using a screwdriver to align it up correctly. Then once you get them, you can just use the palm of your hand as you'll see in a second here. Use the palm of your hand in the spots where those clips are. Just give it a good whack I guess and put in place.

Okay. Now you've got in all those pins in, all around the perimeter, rear and front. Now you're going to put the trim plate on around the door handle. I'm going to fumble with this a little bit. Really what you want to do, I tried doing it without clipping the plate in the first, and you will see I fail. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Basically, what I do is push that back clip in first, get that clipped in, and then makes it that much easier to put that screw in. Okay. And then once we're done with that. Let's take the 7mm driver and the 7mm bullets and put those in. We're coming down the home stretch here. And the rear one. Okay. Now we're going to put that little clip back onto the window crank handle. Put the washer on. Obviously, this point if you have power accessories, hopefully you remember to hook them back up before you put the door panel on. We're all done. This is very good if you need to do a repair on your window regulator, your door handles, window motor, anything like that, speakers and whatever. Okay.
