Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money preparing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20 plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly, that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video we'll be taking off and replacing the door panel on this '99 Grand Am, same as most '99-06 Grand Ams. Fairly easy. You'll need to do this if you're going to replace a door handle or a window regulator or a window motor. Tools you'll need are a regular screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, a putty knife or door panel clip tool and a rag to protect your paint.
To remove the door panel, you start by pulling off this little panel. If you have a little tweeter in here, you can insert your screw driver and it comes apart. Then, I'm just using a rag here to protect the paint or protect the plastic. Going to put your screw driver right into the middle here and press in a little bit. Then, this comes up and out. Probably want to use your screwdriver a little bit to help you. That one, here, this one. and this one. Get this little lock here.
Now you've got your switch plates off. There are four Phillips screws here. One up here in the door handle. There's one right down in here. Once you get that switch plate off you can see it easily enough. It's a larger one. Then there's a little hole right here, just kind of feed your screwdriver into. Then the last one, this little reflector pulls out. The top pulls out and then the bottom will pull out. This one has actually been taken apart before so it's kind of glued together but anyways, there's a Phillips screw right behind the reflector.
Now, what you want to do is take your putty knife. I put a rag right around it and feed it into the bottom. Push it up in there and then I slide it until I hit something, which generally is a clip. I kind of pry a little bit to try and get those clips off. Let me try it on the top here. Once you pry it out the door kind of lifts up and off. You slide this little switch back here for your trunk. Now, your door panel is off.
Plug in the trunk release first. Put the top in, push it in. Get the top into the groove up here. This little tweeter harness, power door lock tweeter harness and everything up where they're supposed to be. Now find each, line up each pin and coax them into their holes. Most of them go right in.
