Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a battery on this 2004 Volkswagen Jetta. The items you'll need is a 10mm and 13mm socket and ratchet with an extension, and a Phillips screwdriver.
Start off by removing this 10mm nut that holds this wire into place. Now pull the wire free. Then you want to slide the fuse box right here back and then up and off. Then push the tabs on either side of this panel and then just lift it up and pull it out. Loosen these two 10mm nuts holding your battery cables into place and then pull those battery cables free, starting with your negative battery cable. Now just remove these two Phillips screws right here and slide this panel up and out.
Next, remove this 13mm bolt down here in the battery hold-down. Once the bolt's removed, just remove that hold down up and out, and then slide this sleeve up and off of your battery. Now you can pull the battery forward and out.
Take your new battery and lower it down into place. Then slide that insulation sleeve back down over the battery. Then replace that battery hold-down. We'll just fast forward as Don tightens up that bolt. Now push your battery cables back into place, positive first and then tighten it up, and then your negative cable and tighten that up. Then push that bracket back into place and then push the front of it into those clips. Just slide that fuse box forward into place. Put that wire back into place and tighten up that 10mm nut. Slide this panel back down and then replace those two Phillips screws. Then replace your battery cover and you're all set.
