How to Replace Battery 2001-05 Honda Civic

If the battery is dead on the 01-05 Honda Civic and needs to be replaced, this video will show the steps to complete this easy repair yourself

step 1 :Removing the Battery
- Loosen the negative battery cable with a 10mm wrench
- Loosen the positive batter cable with a 10mm wrench
- Pull the clip from the mounting bolt
- Remove the mounting bolts with a 10mm wrench
- Remove the battery mount
- Remove the battery cover
- Lift the battery up and out

step 2 :Installing the Battery
- Insert the battery into place
- Replace the battery cover
- Insert the battery mount into place
- Reinstall the 10mm bolts
- Connect the positive battery cable with a 10mm wrench
- Connect the negative battery cable with a 10mm wrench
- Replace the clip to the mounting bolt

In this video, we're going to just show you how to remove and install a battery in this 2003 Honda Civic. All you'll need is a 10mm wrench, but you can also use a 10mm socket and ratchet. You may also want some penetrating oil.
Loosen your negative battery cable with a 10mm wrench,. Pull it up and off and remove it. Obviously, we coated these with some penetrating oil beforehand and let it sit.
Take your positive battery cable. I've got a larger wrench to hold on to the bolt from this side, and then loosen it up and disconnect your positive cable second. Pull it off. This little clip should be holding the harness in place. You just pull this clip up and off, and just kind of push them down so they don't come back and hit the battery.
10mm bolt to remove here, and then 10mm nut here. Obviously, I sprayed it once with some penetrating oil. Spray it down a little bit more and let it sit. 10mm wrench would work. I'm going to use 10mm deep socket with a ratchet extension. Move the bolt first.
We're lucky enough - I did spray it down, but the way it was put together, it was actually just a hook at the bottom, so you can unhook that and pull the retainer up and off. This little protective cover comes up and off as well.
Now you can lift your battery up and out.
Your new battery in place, just to make sure it's staying steady. Push down in. The hook goes down and in. Reinstall your 10mm bolt and tighten it up.
Reconnect your positive cable first, and your negative cable, tighten up. This actually should be attached to the harness here. It goes on here. You would just use some tape, and we can tape that back on.
