Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we show you how to replace the cabin or dust and pollen air filter in this 2002 Ford Escape. The Escape and the Mercury Mariner are the same. The only tools you'll need are a flat blade screwdriver and a Phillips screw driver. Once you do this you'll notice a lot fresher, less odorous air, and more air coming into the cabin.

First step, just turn your key on, turn your windshield wipers on, and when they reach the top just shut your key off and take the key out. It just keeps the windshield wipers up there out of the way.

Start out up here with a small flat blade screwdriver. There's four little caps. Carefully just pry those off and you'll find Phillips screws underneath. I'm just going to fast-forward here as I pry the remaining two caps off and then use a Phillips screwdriver and remove the four Phillips screws. Now, there are four clips here, they have little Phillips screws. You can actually just reach up underneath them, and pop the middle up. I'll just use my little screw driver, and pop him up. To do that, just pull the middles right out and the clips come right up and out. This panel lifts up and you kind of push that side up toward the windshield a little bit and it comes off, and then there's another panel here that comes up and out. Clean all the leaves and stuff off of it.

Your cabin filter is right here. As usual on these things, it doesn't look like this one was ever changed. There's the filter. I'm going to clean these with my hand and I'm also going to use a vacuum cleaner to clean all this stuff out.

We've vacuumed out that area. Here's a new filter from 1A Auto. You can see a little bit of a difference. It has airflow indicators. You want the arrows to point down. Place the filter in there, just squeeze it a little bit, slide it into place. It's kind of tight, but that's okay. Now this goes in, it ends up like that. Put this corner in place first and then lift the rubber around the hood and make sure it goes right down flat in place. The clips can be a little bit frustrating. I kind of pinch the teeth and then put them down in, almost a little sideways and then slide them into place. Sometimes, if you try to put them straight down the teeth will actually get caught up and get bent the wrong way, so you put them in diagonally, push the teeth down and push them the rest of the way in. I'll fast forward here as I put the rest of the clips in and then you put the centers down in to lock them in place, and then close the hood. No reason to go on regular motion here. Just put the four Phillips screws back in and then put the four little caps back on them.
