How to repair, install, fix, change or replace a cracked or damaged dash knee panel on 01 Ford Ranger

step 1 :Removing the Center Dash Panel
- Remove the two 7mm screws on the center trim bezel below the radio
- Pry out the center trim panel with a flat blade screwdriver wrapper in tape
- Disconnect all of the electrical connectors and antenna
- Pry the 4WD selector out with a flat blade screwdriver

step 2 :Removing the Radio
- Press the spring retainers
- Slide the radio out

step 3 :Installing the Radio
- Press the radio into place

step 4 :Reinstalling the Center Dash Panel
- Reconnect the center dash connectors
- Insert the center panel into place
- Tighten the two 7mm screws to the center panel

In this video, we're going to be working with our 2001 Ford Ranger. We're going to show you how to remove and reinstall the center dash panels. Some reasons you might want to do this is to access the wiring to the radio, the cigarette lighter, the fog lights, or maybe the four wheel drive selector switch.

Here are the items you'll need for this repair: 7mm socket, ratchet, and a flat blade screwdriver
Remove the two 7 millimeter screws on the center trim bezel below the radio. We're going to use the small flat-blade screwdriver with some tape on it to keep from marring our dash surface. Pry out on this center trim panel. Reach back and disconnect all of the electrical connectors.
The antennae pops right back and out. This last connector for the 4-wheel drive selector is going to have to be pried up on with our flat-blade screwdriver. With the center dash panel removed, the radio can be simply slid out by locating the two spring retainers on the sides. Simply push down and push the radio out. Radio slides right out of the panel.
Reinstall the radio into the slot. Lift the dash up till the radio locks into place.
Now our panel is ready to go back into our vehicle. Reconnect the 4-wheel drive selector connector. Reconnect the cigarette lighter; there's two wires there. Reconnect the radio harness, the antennae, the fog light switch, and the A/C power outlet connector. Push the entire panel back into place. Then reinstall the two 7-millimeter screws at the bottom of the panel.
