step 1 :Remove the serpentine belt
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Loosen the alternator to work the serpentine belt free with your socket and wrench.
- Pull your radiator reservoir bottle up and out.

step 2 :Remove the crankshaft position sensor
- Disconnect the crank position sensor with a screwdriver.
- Unbolt the mounting bolt with a ratchet, extension, flex joint and socket.

step 3 :Install the new crankshaft position sensor
- Connect the crankshaft position sensor to the wiring harness.
- Bolt the sensor back in.
- Use your serpentine belt diagram to put the belt back on.
- Tighten up your alternator.
- Reconnect the battery.

Here's the deal. We'll be showing you how to replace the crankshaft sensor on this Toyota Camry with a 3.0L V6. Tools you need are pretty basic, 10, 12 and 14 millimeter sockets with a ratchet and extension and a flexible joint. You'll also need short and regular length flat blade screwdrivers. The crank system sensor is actually down here. What we want to do first is get these belts out of the way. We want to loosen this 14 millimeter bolt. Loosen this 12 millimeter bolt. Then loosen the 12 millimeter tightening rod. You want to take your radiator bottle and pull it up and out of the way; a little difficult here. Hopefully you can see well enough. This is your crank position sensor connection. What you want to do is, I'm taking a short screwdriver and this is the tab you want to push in right here. While I'm pushing with that short screwdriver I'll take a regular screwdriver and put it in and pry up right underneath the connection.
As I'm prying up, I'm applying a little pressure; I push with my other screwdriver. It actually comes up and off. There's the connector. This is the little tab you need to push on. Get that out of the way. Now down in here I've got my crank position sensor and down below that is the bolt. The best way to get to that bolt is a long extension and a flexible joint. Guide your socket down in there.
Now again use your screwdriver, get it under that sensor. Pry it up and out. Here's my sensor out. Here's my original sensor; new sensor from 1A Auto. You can see it's all the same; it's going to go in there just exactly the same. Close-up shot down in there. That's where the sensor goes. We'll guide our new one down in. Tilt the top of it toward the front of the car. Find its way into the hole. Make sure our harness doesn't get in the way. Now I need a bolt. Insert our sensor in with a 10 millimeter bolt, start it in.
Again, using our extension and flexible joint, tighten that up, nice and firm. Plug our harness connection back in. Now we can bring our belt, make sure it's around the AC compressor and down around the crank shaft, up onto the alternator. Tighten up our tensioning bolt. Tighten it until there's only about inch of play. Tighten our 14 millimeter bolt back up to the alternator. Then our 12 millimeter bolt.
