Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the battery in this Ford Escort ZX2. It's pretty easy. The battery is heavy so watch out for that. Beyond that you'll need a 10mm wrench and an 8mm wrench, but we use a socket and ratchet which is a little better, a little bit quicker.
Use a 10mm socket to remove the negative terminal first. You can see once you get the nut loose then you just try and turn the cables, twist them get them to move, go back and forth, and then they pull off. Do the same for the positive side. The tie down is an 8mm. It's a long threaded bolt that holds the bracket at the bottom of the battery. Okay, I'm just going to speed up as we remove that bolt. You did hear it groaning or squeaking, that's because it usually comes up fairly tough but once you get it going it goes well.
Once you pull it out, a good idea to clean it up, wire brushes, put some anti-seize on it before you put it back in. Out with the old and in with the newer. Here we just use a rag to put over the battery, and just using a wire brush to clean off the cables and terminals as much as you can, get as much of the corrosion and stuff out of it. Then use a little bit of oil, either penetrate or whatever, and just spray it on the terminals before you put it together. Reconnect the positive terminal first, my negative, and my bracket goes back on.
