How To Replace Dead Battery 2004-11 Ford F-150

Learn how to replace a dead battery in your 04-11 Ford F150. You can save time and money doing it yourself. 1A Auto shows you how in this video.

  1. step 1 :Disconnecting the Battery
    • On this 2004 Ford F150, the battery is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
    • Using your 8 mm wrench, remove the negative (-) terminals first, and then repeat for the positive (+) terminals.
  2. step 2 :Removing the Clamp
    • Carefully remove the battery cover.
    • Along the side of the battery, you’ll see a single 10mm bolt that holds the clamp down.
    • Loosen bolt and remove clamp.
  3. step 3 :Removing the Battery
    • Once the battery is free of the clamp, you are able to simply pull it out.
    • If you have any corrosion on either the terminals or the battery tray, now is a great time to clean it up.
  4. step 4 :Installing the New Battery
    • When placing the new battery into your vehicle, make sure that the positive side (+) of the battery lines up with the positive cables (+), and the negative side (-) of the battery lines up with the negative cables (-).
  5. step 5 :Reinstalling the Clamp and Battery Cover
    • When replacing the clamp, check to see that the wedge on the clamp goes towards the engine.
    • Tighten the 10 mm bolt that holds the clamp.
    • Replace battery cover.
  6. step 6 :Reconnecting the Battery
    • Reconnecting is done in reverse order.
    • Starting with the positive side (+), connect terminals and tighten with an 8 mm wrench.
    • Repeat for the negative side (-)

In this video we're going to show you how to replace a battery in a 2004 Ford F150 pickup truck. It's going to be very similar for many model years of the Ford F150 pickup truck.
You'll need an 8 mm wrench as well as a 10 mm socket, socket extension and socket wrench.

On the passenger side of the engine compartment, you'll find the battery. Starting with the negative side, remove the terminals, with an 8 mm wrench. Repeat for the positive side. After those are removed, you can lift off the cover. Along the side, you're going to see a 10 mm bolt that holds the clamp. Loosen bolts, remove clamp and pull out the battery.

Clean up the battery tray and the terminals if they have any corrosion on them.

Install the battery. Make sure the positive side lines up with the positive cables, and the negative side lines up with the negative cable. Put the clamp back in. You can see the wedge goes toward the engine. Tighten 10 mm bolts that hold the clamp. Reinstall the battery cover. Starting with the positive side, connect and tighten. Repeat for the negative side. Once you tighten up those terminals you should be all set.
