Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the battery in this 2006 Chevy Impala, pretty much the same for any 2006-2011 Impala. The only tools you'll need are 10, 11 and 13 millimeter sockets with a ratchet and extension.
The battery is located in the passenger side. First, you'll want to remove two nuts, they're 11 millimeters and they hold the fuse block in place. And you just want to be able to move that fuse box up and out of the way when you're lifting the battery up and out. Now you need to move the brace. There's two 13 millimeter bolts at the front. Remove those two fully and then loosen the bolts at the rear and you can slide the brace to the side. There's a little clip on the wiring harness, pull that out so you can pull the wiring harness out of the way. Now there is a 13 millimeter bolt down at the bottom of the battery that holds the batter hold-down, and we'll fast forward as remove that 13 millimeter bolt and the hold-down itself.
Now use a 10 millimeter socket . or a 10 millimeter wrench would work. Loosen the bolts. First loosen the one for the negative battery cable. Pull the negative battery cable up and off. And then repeat the same procedure for the positive cable. When you do this, be careful not to touch your wrench to any metal parts as it could cause some sparking. Disconnect the positive battery cable and now move things up and out of the way. You'll have to work your battery. Pull the front side out a little bit, twist it out, and then diagonally pull it up and out.
Pull the insulator sleeve off of your old battery, and then obviously put it back onto your new battery. Now just put the battery down in place, reversing the procedure. Put the backside of the battery down in first. As you're working the battery down in there, just make sure that the sleeve goes down in. Once you get it down past the body, twist it into place. Slip the hold-down back in place. Start the hold-down bolt by hand first; make sure you don't cross thread anything. Then tighten it up with your socket, ratchet and extension. Now, reconnect the positive battery cable first. Again, be careful not to touch your wrench to anything metal. It could cause a spark. Then do the same thing for the negative battery cable.
Put your fuse block back in place and secure it with the two 11 millimeter nuts. And then put the wiring harness clip back into the brace, with two bolts back in the front. And then tighten up all three bolts for that brace.
