Brought to you by 1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the internet. Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we show you how to replace the distributor on this 1998 Honda Civic with a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine. It's the same process on these Civics from 1997 to 1998. The only items you'll need for this is a new distributor from 1AAuto.com and a 12 millimeter socket and ratchet with an extension. Right here is the harness for your distributor. You want to disconnect that by pushing on the tab and pulling it apart. Then there's 1, 2, and 3 12 millimeter bolts holding in your distributor. We'll just fast-forward as Don removes these. Then once those are removed your distributor just pulls right out.

You'll want to label your plug wires, 1 through 4. Write it on the boot of the plug wire as well as on the distributor cap. This just helps you when you put your new on to make sure they go in the correct places. Once you've done that, you can disconnect each of your spark plug wires. Now using your old distributor as a reference you want to match up the spark plug wires to the right spots. Now to install your new distributor you want to make sure first, that the lines on that back circle are lined up with the center circle otherwise it won't feed in properly. You want to match up the teeth with that slot in there so just line that up. Make sure those lines stay lined up on the distributor, push it into place and replace those 3 12 millimeter bolts and tighten them up. Reconnect your harness and you're all set.
