step 1 :Removing the Door Panel
- Remove the two 7mm bolts inside the door pull
- Pry off the door handle bezel with a flat blade screwdriver
- Pry the door panel off with a putty knife
- Pull the door panel up and off the window sill
- Disconnect the courtesy light wiring harness
- Disconnect the speaker wiring harness
- Disconnect the window switch wiring harness

step 2 :Servicing or Replacing the Courtesy Light
- Pry out the courtesy light tabs with a flat blade screwdriver
- Slide the courtesy light back and out
- Push the tabs on the socket with a flat blade screwdriver
- Pull the socket out of the courtesy light
- Pull off the light bulb
- Push on the new light bulb
- Push the socket into the courtesy light
- Slide the courtesy light back into the door panel
- Push the courtesy light tabs in

step 3 :Reinstalling the Door Panel
- Reconnect the courtesy light wiring harness
- Reconnect the speaker wiring harness
- Reconnect the window switch wiring harness
- Push the door panel down into the windowsill
- Line up the door panel clips
- Push the door panel clips in
- Insert the two 7mm bolts into the door pull

In this video we're going to show you how to service the inside courtesy lights, the door mounted courtesy lights. This is a '96 Chevy Tahoe. These lights are the same for basically this generation, GM SUV, as well as pickup trucks. The lights are designed to be pried out from the outside, but as these vehicles age you can break the lights by prying them out. We actually removed the entire door panel to show you on this video.
You want to start off by removing these two 7mm bolts. We'll just fast forward as Don does this. Using a flat blade screwdriver, pry right here at the top of this panel and remove it. Now we use a putty knife here to just pry back behind the door panel so you can get your hands back there. You want to just pull out near the clip and it will release it. You want to just do this all the way around the door panel. Once all those clips are released, you want to lift it up and off the window sill. On the back of your door panel you want to disconnect your courtesy light harness by just pushing the tab and pulling it free. Do the same thing for your speaker harness. Then you want to just pry out the tab on this harness and pull it free.
On the back of your courtesy light you want to just pry out these two tabs and push down, and then slide the courtesy light back and out. To service the bulb, you want to push the tabs on either side of the socket and the socket pulls free. You can pull your old bulb out, and then just push your new bulb in and push the socket back into the light. Now you just slide the courtesy light back and push it up and into place.
Now to replace the door panel, just reconnect your courtesy light harness, your speaker harness, and your window switch harness. You want these clips to go into these holes right here, so first just push your door panel down into the window seal. Now just look back behind the door panel, make sure they line up, and then just hit them into place. Just repeat this process around the door panel, making sure that they are lining up so you don't break them when you hit it. Then just replace those two 7mm bolts, and replace this bezel and just hit it into place. Then, you're all set.
