In this video we're going to show you how to remove and replace a door lock switch. This is a 2016 F-150. It's pretty much the same for this generation of F-150. This vehicle does have the XLT trim, so removing the door panel may be a little different for the higher level trims. It may not be necessary, especially if your switch is broken. You can pry it out from the outside without removing your door panel, but in this video we do show you how to remove the door panel, remove the switch correctly and put the new one in.

All right, before we start, it’s always a good idea just to put the window down just in case you hit the lock switch by accident. You don't want to lock yourself out of your truck.
Open up the door. And if you have a switch to turn off your dome light, shut off your dome light so that you don't drain your battery. Remove this panel, and you can pull out on it, and get your fingers underneath. The right tool is a plastic tool, get under here to help you pry it a little bit. If you had to, you could also use a screwdriver—just wrap it in a rag so you don't scratch your paint. But you just want to remove this panel. Pull straight out on it. When you get the top released, work your way down to the bottom. And again, pull straight out, don't pull down, you don't want to break anything.
Next, you want to pull this panel off. There's a little indent where you can work a tool, or a screw driver in. This panel is held in very tightly, so there's actually an indent here. I'm going to use a screwdriver, because you need something metal that doesn't flex. Work the screwdriver way up in there. And I'm going to try and hold the panel with my thumb, or else it's going to go flying. Now, pull out this panel. You want to pry from the top.
There are seven 7mm screws that hold it in: two, three, four, five, and then way down at the bottom here, six, and seven. Use a 7mm socket ratchet and extension to remove them. And these lower ones are at quite a bit of an angle. And then there's clips in the back to release. I like to start right up here. Firm pull. Then work your hand down. Firm pull. And the panel comes off.
And disconnect your window switch, and your power door lock switch. Little tab, push and pull down. Disconnect the door handle. Very easy, kind of apply some pressure, just pull down on this tab. It comes right out.
Backside of the panel, see the switch. It’s very easy to remove when the panel's off. There's just two tabs on the top and bottom. Squeeze them and push the switch out. Now if your switch is the culprit and it's broken, it's easy enough to actually pry it out without taking the panel off. You pry it out, disconnect it and then put your new switch on and put it back in. Again, you can do that without the panel off if you're not worried about breaking your old switch.
Reinstall. Again, we have the panel off. If you have the panel still on the vehicle, you'd make sure you pull your wire through, connect it and then put the switch in. Just something to keep in mind, there's a large alignment pin here that goes into this hole in the front here Reconnect your window switch first. Then your door lock. Then bring your door handle up. The largest alignment pins in the front, there's a large hole in the door, put your panel up. Get your lock through, and then you need to push the top of the panel, pull the bottom out, push the top of the panel down on until that alignment tab goes in. Then you can look right back in here, and you'll see a tab here, go down until that tabs in place. Then pretty much everything should line right up.
Activate all the clips. Ones with the large washers, go right where you door pull is. Silver ones with the smaller washers, go down underneath the door handle, or the door pull. And then the black ones: one goes up at the top, and the other two go at the bottom. These are all 7 mm, and we'll tighten them up. Put in the bottom cover first. There's tabs that go at the bottom, and then the locking clips are up top. Then this one cap, goes into the back. Line it up, goes on easy enough. And then the mirror cover.
