In this video, we are going to be removing and putting back on the door panel on this 2007 Avalanche. This is the same for any of this generation SUV. Avalanche, Yukon, Tahoe, Suburban, even Escalade and the only tools you will need are a small flat blade screw driver, a 10 millimeter socket with a ratchet extension, and either a door panel clip tool or a putty knife.
First you want to remove this triangle here by just pulling it out. Kind of work your hands underneath and it pulls out. Then in a couple of little trimmed doors, use your little screwdriver and you will see a little key here. Pull this piece of trim out and then the same thing down here and use your screwdriver. Now there are three bolts right in back of the door pool. One, two, and then a third one right up here.
Okay and I will fast forward through just removing those three bolts and those are 10 millimeter bolts so you will need a 10 millimeter socket with a ratchet and an extension. Okay next you will want to use a small screwdriver and there is a little tab on your door lock and you pry that tab out. You do not pry it all the way out, you just pry it out a little bit and then the lock pull just comes right off.
Now what you want to do is start on the back corner here and carefully put in a putty knife like this and you pull your door panel just enough and you want to slide it down until you hit something and that is your clip. Okay, slide it up here; slide it up here until your next one, next one. Just a quick apology because I forgot to change the camera angle before I do the next step which is to pull the door panel up and off. Then you need to disconnect this cable. There are two clips here you want to press with your finger. Press one, pull the clip out a little bit, and then spin it so you can press the other one. Okay, and then pull it up and off. Okay, now you need to disconnect your harnesses down here. They have little tabs on them that you press right here. Okay and then these have tabs right there, right there, and your door panel is free.
Okay now to put the door panel back on, first there are two black tabs down there that go into square holes in the door and then the door panel just rests like that. Okay now all of these harnesses go into specific places and it is not too difficult. They all have little ridges on them that make sure you do not connect them in properly, but what you can do is look at them first and kind of look over and see where each one goes.
On this vehicle there must be an accessory that does not have because nothing goes into the first opening. The white one goes into the second. Actually, the easier way is to connect this black one back here, which is the black tab, large first, and then this brown one goes kind of in the middle.
It can only go into one section because of its size and the black one goes right next to that brown one. Somewhat right next to it. Basically in the third slot and the white one goes right next to the black one in the second slot.
So a note on those harnesses, when you are plugging them in, if they do not go in easy, you are not putting them in the right place. Okay. As long as you get them into the right slot, they slide in nice and easy. If you are having to force them at all, then you have them in the wrong place. Okay, one other thing to be sure of in this vehicle, my clip that holds the bolt when you bolt the panel on had kind of fallen down. So what I did was I took it out and pressed it with a pair of pliers to close it up some and then I will put it back on. You can still see if even though it is still does not really stay. What I am going to do is just put a piece of tape on that just to make sure it stays there so it is there when I bolt it in.
What happened is it is kind of loose, so it will flip down like that and then you have nothing to bolt into. So I am going to put it back up like that, put a little piece of tape on there. As long as that tape holds it until I get the bolt into it, it will be fine. Now you need to reconnect your door pull. Just put the cable down in there, pull it out, and then clip it in. I have one clip that came out of the door, clip that back in. Then lift your panel up a little bit and over. There is a white clip in here that should go over and then the door panel is one valley right there like that. Basically once when you have the door panel down there, you just look back here and see the tabs that kind of locate themselves, feel around a little bit, and clip that in.
Make sure all your tabs go into the holes. Put your three bolts back in, then your covers. The one with the single tab goes on the bottom, just put in. Push the bottom part in first on this one, then the top, and this one, and your lock button. Make sure this is pried out. Put it down, press that in just a little bit, and lock that. Then you are all set.
