How to Replace Driver Side Catalytic Converter 2003-07 Cadillac CTS

step 1 :Removing the Catalytic Converter
- Raise and support the vehicle
- Remove the four 14mm bolts from the exhaust
- Separate the exhaust
- Loosen the oxygen sensor with an O2 sensor socket or 22mm wrench
- Remove the O2 sensor
- Remove the 10mm bolt from the exhaust heat shield
- Pull back the heat shield
- Remove the two 13mm nuts from the catalytic converter
- Pull the catalytic converter down and out

step 2 :Installing the Catalytic Converter
- Line up the catalytic converter bolt holes
- Start the two 13mm nuts by hand
- Tighten the two 13mm nuts
- Put the heat shield into place
- Insert the 10mm bolt into the heat shield
- Start the O2 sensor by hand
- Tighten the O2 sensor with the O2 sensor socket or 22mm wrench
- Line up the exhaust
- Insert the four 14mm bolts into the exhaust gaskets
- Torque the 14mm bolts to 16 foot-pounds of torque

In this video, we're going to be working with our 2006 Cadillac CTS 2.8 liter V6. We're going to change out our driver’s side or on this particular vehicle the bank 2 catalytic converter. Here are the items you'll need for this repair: 7mm socket, 10mm socket, 14mm, socket, ratchet, O2 sensor socket, 13mm wrench, 3/8 inch wrench
We're going to use a lift to make this easier to show you guys at home, but you should be able to do this in the driveway with a jack and jack stands. Remove these four 14 millimeter bolts from the exhaust with a 14 millimeter socket and ratchet. Separate the exhaust and allow it to hang. Install the O2 sensor socket or a 22 millimeter wrench over the sensor. Once you've cracked the sensor loose, you should be able to remove it the rest of the way by hand.
We’re going to remove this 10 millimeter bolt upper-heat shield for the exhaust manifold, and see if we can pry it back to access those two bolts. We're going to use a 3/8” wrench and see if we can't get on there with something a little bit smaller than 10 millimeter and break it loose. We can, so we'll remove that the rest of the way and see if we can pry the heat shield back to access the bolts for the cat converter.
We going to use a 13 millimeter stubby wrench to hold the bolt at the top and a 13 millimeter deep socket with a u-joint and an extension to loosen the nut. We'll leave the bolts up in there, because this side is a lot more difficult to access. After you've removed the last nut, remove the cat converter from the vehicle.
To install the catalytic converter, you'll have to line up the gaskets as well as the bolt holes with the bolts. Install the washer and nut on by hand. Tighten up the two 13 millimeter bolts. Reinstall the 3/8” bolt into the heat shield – I believe this is a 10 millimeter, but ours is stripped, so we’ll be re-installing it with the 3/8” wrench.
Reinstall your driver’s side O2 sensor. Install your O2 sensor socket or a 22 millimeter wrench. Tighten down the O2 sensor the rest of the way. Then we'll line up our pipes, reinstall our four 14 millimeter bolts. Tighten up all your bolts and make sure that they seat onto the exhaust gasket evenly. Torque these bolts to sixteen foot pounds.
