What's up, guys? I'm Andy from 1A Auto. In this video, I'm going to show you how to replace this exhaust variable valve timing solenoid on this 2010 Toyota RAV4. If you need this part or other parts for your vehicle, click the link in the description and head over to 1AAuto.com.
Just want to pull this cover off, just grab underneath the cover, slide up, and up there in there, there's these retainers that hold it in and just push on little grommets right on those locations. I'm going to disconnect this connector right here. Just push down on the tab and you should be able to get it off. There you go. Slide that right off, and I'm going to take this bolt out right here. Just take a 10 millimeter ratchet wrench and loosen this bolt out. That ratchet wrench makes it a little bit easier. It's a little bit tight in there to get a ratchet. All right, take that out. Get a little compressed air to get any dirt out of there. You don't want any of that getting into the engine, and then let's take a screwdriver. Just carefully get in here. Just try to pry it out a little bit, just gently. Go back and forth. There we go. Just twist it out.
Just going to take a rag, just clean up the hole where the solenoid went. That's good. Take the new solenoid. You can take a little bit of transmission fluid or engine oil, put it on that seal right there, or even some grease. It's just going to make it easier to install. Get the wiring harness out of the way. Just gently slide this in position, just like that. Take the bolt. Get the bolt lined up. Take my 10 millimeter ratchet wrench and tighten this down and just snug it. Take the connector, line the connector up, lock it in place. Take this cover and we want to align these little tabs up with these little pins right there. There's three of them. Just push it down and then you're good to go.
