How to Replace Front Brakes 2007-18 Chevy Silverado

1. step 1 :Removing the Wheel 0:21

   • Loosen the 22mm lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
   • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
   • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
   • Remove the lug nuts
   • Pull off the wheel

2. step 2 :Removing the Front Brakes 0:49

   • Remove 19mm bolts from the brake caliper
   • Pry the brake pads into the caliper with a flat blade screwdriver to push in the pistons
   • Pull the caliper aside
   • Pry the brake pads off with a flat blade screwdriver
   • Remove 18mm bolts from the brake caliper bracket
   • Pull off the brake caliper bracket
   • Remove the T30 Torx screw from the rotor
   • Pull the rotor off
   • If the rotor will not come off, thread the caliper bolts to the rotor and strike the hub area of the rotor with the ball end of a ball peen hammer

3. step 3 :Preparing the New Brakes 4:56

   • Clean off surface rust from the hub with a wire brush
   • Clean the brake pad clips and the mating surface on the caliper bracket with a wire brush
   • Apply grease to the caliper slides
   • Apply a thin coat of copper anti-seize to the hub
   • Clean the rotor with brake parts cleaner

4. step 4 :Installing the Front Brakes 7:30

   • Slide the rotor on
   • Tighten the T30 screw to the rotor
   • Put the bracket back into place
   • Start the bolts by hand
   • Tighten the bolts to 170 foot-pounds of torque
   • Put an old pad in the caliper
   • Use a large C-clamp and the old pad to push the pistons back
   • Apply grease to the brake pad tabs
   • Install the new brake pads into the bracket
   • Put the caliper on
   • Thread bolts by hand
   • Tighten bolts to 74 foot-pounds

5. step 5 :Reattaching the Wheel 10:23

   • Slide the wheel into place
   • Start the lug nuts by hand
   • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
   • Lower the vehicle partially to the ground
   • Tighten the lug nuts to 140 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
   • Lower the vehicle completely

6. step 6 :Testing the Brakes 11:20

   • Pump your brakes repeatedly until they feel firm
   • Test your brakes at 5 miles per hour and then 10 miles per hour
   • Road test the vehicle
   • Check the brake fluid level and adjust accordingly
