Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing or maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20-plus years' experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video we show you how to remove and replace the front bumper cover and by accident the grille as well, on this 2005 Accord, the same as any '03 to '07. It sounds like a daunting task but it really isn't. You only need a few basic tools, a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver and a 10-millimeter wrench or socket and ratchet.
To change a headlight assembly, you'll see we've got it up here on a lift. You don't have to put it on a lift. We have it raised up to make it easier to show you. First you're going to start by removing a number of clips. Here's one, two, three, four, five on the top. Then down around the bottom, they're right across the bottom here. Right here and right across the bottom and then there's a clip there, which is in front of a wheel, and there should be one there in front of the wheel but it is missing one.
With either move you can see the screwdriver and you can see there's actually a little slot. Press the screwdriver in there. Pry up and the clip comes out. I'll remove all of those. You also need to remove three of those clips on top and then two Phillips screwdrivers style clips. You'll use a little Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the pin and then the clip comes up out.
Here we're going to fast-forward a little bit because you don't need to see me pull out each individual one. We use fast-forward a little bit throughout the video when I'm doing repetitive things like taking out fasteners or whatever. Next there're two Phillips screws. There's one right up in there, right up in the wheel well and then one on the other side. I'll remove those.
Now there're four 10-millimeter bolts here, here, and then the same thing on the other side, there and there. I'll remove those. There are clips and you just want to pull up lightly to release these clips and pull this part of the cover out. Once you have all those fasteners done, and you know about those clips, then pull the sides out, and then pull from the clips. Now on the other side, pull the other side out. Use the shake method a little bit. The clips run backwards that are holding the grille on. That's interesting. That's why that pulled off. We can fix that easily enough. Your bumper cover comes off.
Now we're going to reinstall the bumper cover. Now, on these clips that you did pry them up here, you just want to go in here, push them back down a little bit, just to make sure you get a good tight bite. I accidentally pulled the grille off, but that's all right. It can go on later. What you want to do is get yourself pretty much in the right spot. Then the cover goes right into the clip here, on this side. Then once you have that clipped in, there's the cover right in there. It just slides into some clips there, and you want to make sure you have it up, so you can push it in here first. Then you want to pull it back, and you want to make sure this part of the cover goes up and over. Make sure it's all back on there correctly. I'll do that to the other side here.
Now, the grille, it appears that the pins are actually up from the bottom. I believe you can push it right on here. I'm just kind of pulling up on the clips from the bottom side, pushing the grille down and pushing them on. It appears that it's working fine. I know the clips are on the top clips. Put this on. I saw with this car when I took it apart this really wasn't together correctly. You want to put it in like that. Make sure the black goes in under the grille. Then this has on the side here that go in under the fender. Now we can clip it all together.
Here's something to keep in mind. The cover actually goes under this black plastic and hopefully it's pliable enough. These are all set, all three. You can learn from my mistake on that one. Now we'll put in our four bolts. Again, those go on the clips, which are plastic, so you don't want to make them too tight as long as they're snug. Lastly, your two Phillips screws, the top of the wheel wells, make sure everything is tight. I've got in there snug. You're not tightening them up a lot. We're just making sure their snug. There you go.
