In this video, we're going to be working with our 1996 GMC Sierra. We're going to show you how to remove and replace your vehicle's front grille. If you like this video, please click Subscribe. We have a ton more information on this and many other vehicles, and if you need this part for your truck, you can follow the link down in the description over to 1AAuto.com. Here are the items you'll need for this repair.
Remove the two 3/16” screws securing the headlight in. These come out of the top of the grille. We'll do that with a socket, ratchet and extension. Remove the headlight from the vehicle and disconnect the headlight bulbs. Repeat these steps on the opposite side.
To remove the upper reflector use a 13 millimeter or a half inch wrench. If you have access to a ratcheting wrench this is a great opportunity to use it. You'll want to remove the two nuts on the back. These are just plastic body nuts. There's not much tension on them. You can then pull the reflector out of the grille. Repeat these steps on the opposite side.
Remove the four Phillips head screws on the outside edges of your turn signal. We'll do this using a Phillips head screwdriver. Once the screws are out, you can pull the housing forward and remove the electrical connectors. Repeat these steps on the opposite side.
To remove the lower turn signal you want to turn the bulb socket sideways and remove it. It comes out just like the reflector does with two 13 millimeter nuts or half-inch nuts. You'll want to remove those with a ratcheting wrench if you have access to one, otherwise you'll just have to work them off with a regular box open-end wrench. Repeat these steps on the opposite side.
Remove the two seven millimeter bolts and the two Phillips head screws at the top of the grille. To do this we'll use a seven millimeter or a 9/32” socket and ratchet, as well as a Phillips head screwdriver. Once the hardware is out release the grille from the clips on the bottom. You just got to kind of work them out and remove your grille from the truck.
In order to remove your old emblem you'll want to remove these four 13 millimeter body nuts with a socket and ratchet. You could also use a half-inch for this. Once you've got the body nuts removed, you can remove the emblem from your grille.
Install the badge into the grille and install your four 13 millimeter or half-inch body nuts onto the studs. Tighten those down with a 13 millimeter socket and ratchet.
Slide in the bottom tabs of the grille and lock them into place. Then reinstall the two seven millimeter screws in the top corners, as well as the two Phillips heads in the center. Now that we have our new grille installed on the vehicle, you can see that it is the exact same as the one we removed. It's the same size and shape, with the same four bolt holes for the turn signals, headlight buckets, same openings for our reflectors and side markers. We've already installed the three clips on the bottom. You have the same four bolt locations on the top. So if your old grille is cracked, broken, or faded, this new piece from 1A Auto, which is paint to match, will go in direct fit, just like your original equipment and fix you up right.
Install the light into the side marker, as well as your two 13 millimeter nuts. Tighten those down with a 13 millimeter ratcheting wrench. Repeat these steps on the opposite side.
Reinstall the lights into the turn signals. Install them into the grille along with the four Phillips head screws. Repeat these steps on the opposite side.
Install the reflector and two 13 millimeter body nuts and tighten them down with a 13 millimeter ratcheting wrench or whatever you can get in there with.
Reconnect your headlights. Reinstall them and reinstall the three 3/16” bolts. Repeat these steps on the opposite side
