Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the grille on this 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 HD. It's pretty much the same procedure as any GMC Sierra 1500s and 2500s and the Yukon XLs. Items you'll need are a new grille from 1A Auto, flat blade screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, 10mm socket and ratchet, and pliers. You may need a 1/2 inch drill bit and drill.
To start off you're just going to remove these seven rivets from this panel. To do that you're just going to use a small flat blade screwdriver and pry up that center part and then it should pull free. You may need to pry up that bottom part of the clip separately and it should come out. We'll just fast forward here as he pries up the other six clips. Then you just want to remove that panel. Around the grille there are four Phillips head clips. There's one in each corner of the grille. To remove these clips, you just want to use a Phillips head screwdriver and turn them a quarter of a turn. We'll just fast forward as he does the other three clips. Then you want to remove that 10mm bolt up at the top using a 10mm socket. Then you want to pry out the outside of this bumper; you just pull that clip right out of the hole there. Then you want to do the same thing on the other side and then the grille should come free.
Next, what you want to do is you want to remove the GMC badge from the grille. You see that there are tabs, four of them, on the back of the grille. What you want to do is you just want to push those and it will free that badge. Right here you can see there's four punch outs on the grille for those clips. What you want to do is you want to try to punch them out using a screwdriver. You want to be careful though not to crack the plastic. What can do is, you can use a 1/2 inch drill bit and drill and just drill holes through those punch outs. Next you want to just push that badge right down into place on the new grille.
This grille came with new clips. We're only going to use the half that goes into the grille. You separate that and you just push those into the four holes on the grille. If one of these ones in the actual body of the truck is broken, all you do is you use pliers on the tabs on the back and remove them and then you push the new one into that. Then what you're going to want to do is you want to line up the clips in the grille so that they're vertical so that they match up with the clips in the truck. Next, you're going to want to add the side clips, just push them down onto place. You just want to line the grille up, and push the sides in. You don't actually have to push the clip in yet. Just push the sides in. That way you can line up the pins there on the grille into the holes on the body of the truck and line up your Phillips clips and give them a quarter of a turn clockwise to secure them. We'll just fast forward here as he does those other two clips. On the side what you're going to want to do is use a flat blade screwdriver to line those clips up and they should push right in. Do the same thing on the other side. We'll just fast forward. You just want to put that 10mm bolt back in and tighten it and then replace that panel and those seven clips. They should just push right down.
