Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video we're going to show you how to replace the headlight assembly on a 2008 Dodge Caliber. We show you two different styles, both the performance and the regular version. We show you on the driver's side, but it's the same procedure for the passenger side. The items you'll need for this are new headlights from 1AAuto.com, a 7mm and 10mm socket and a ratchet, T25 Torx bit, and a flat blade screwdriver.
Along the top of the grill, you'll see the series of T25 bolts; just go ahead and remove those. Now, in your wheel well, you'll see two 7mm bolts right here; just remove those. Then you want to remove this clip right here, and you can see Don uses wire cutters. He doesn't actually cut the clip; he just uses it to get underneath and pull the clip out. Then you have to just pull the bottom part of the clip out. Now pull back your inner fender and you'll see there's a 7mm bolt right here, and we'll just fast forward as Don removes that.
You don't have to lift your vehicle, but we do this just so you have a better view. You want to remove these two clips right here. Just use a flat blade screwdriver and pry out the center. You can just pull them out, and if you need to, use a pair of pliers to help. Under your bumper you'll see these three 10mm bolts, and we'll fast forward as Don removes those. Now with those bolts removed, you can pull your bumper out and now you have access to these three 10mm bolts: one there, one there, and one right down there. We'll fast forward as Don removes those. Now you just pull the headlight straight out.
Now to service your headlight bulb, you just twist the socket out and then pull out the red tab on the harness and just push on that tab and pull the socket free. Plug the new one in, replace that red clip, and you're all set. Now for your turn signal bulb, do the same thing. Twist it out, pull the bulb straight out, push your new one back in, and then twist the socket back into place. If you need to disconnect the harness, which you will if you're servicing the entire assembly, you just pull out the red tab and pull the socket free. To replace the entire assembly, you're going to need to disconnect both those harnesses again.
On the left is the old headlight; on the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they'll mount exactly the same. If you do want something slightly different, we also have this performance pair with the black bezel, and it will also mount exactly the same. Reconnect your harnesses to your headlight. Then line your headlight up and push it into place. We'll fast forward as Don replaces those three 10mm bolts.
Next, line this cutout up with this washer and just push it into place. Then replace the two clips underneath the bumper, and you just push the center in to lock those. Then we'll fast forward here as Don replaces those three 10mm bolts under the bumper. Replace the clip in the wheel well; it's the same as the two under the bumper. Just push the center in to secure it and replace that 7mm bolt that holds the bumper to the fender and replace the 7mm bolts in the wheel well. Then just replace that series of T25 Torx bolts along the top of your grill and then you're all set.
In this picture you can see on the left is the original headlight; on the right is the new one. You can just see how much brighter and clearer the new one looks, and you'll notice it at night as well. Then if you wanted to try something different, here you can just see how the performance headlight looks compared to the original.
