Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a hood latch assembly. This is a 2008 Dodge Ram. Pretty much the same for any 2002 to 2008 1500, 2003 to 2009 2500 and 3500. Items you'll need include a new hood latch assembly from 1AAuto.com, flat blade screwdriver, and a 10mm socket and ratchet.
Open up the hood. Your latch is here and it's pretty easy. If your latch is broken, sometimes the rivets break or they just get rusted to a point where you even with penetrating oil, you can't get it to work correctly, you're probably not going to worry about exact placement. You can adjust it afterwards, but we're actually going to reinstall our latch.
We'll show you the new latch from 1A Auto, but this latch is in fine working order, so we're going to reinstall it. We're just going to mark around the bolts, so that when we reinstall it we can put it back in to the exact same place.
You need to remove the cable first, so flat plate screwdriver just pry it out and make sure it's loose. Two 10mm bolts hold it in, so a wrench or a socket and ratchet will work. Remove the last bolt, and then flip it upside down. Push this there, and then you can see that the cable comes out and it's free.
The original part from the car. New part from 1A Auto, and it's exactly the same as the original. MPDHO00016.
Reinstall. Make sure you pull the cable out. Put that right up to there, and just push this over. Make sure that the cable goes underneath, and that's hold. Now, you can flip it back over and reinstall your two bolts. We have the marks here.
If you're installing a new one, you can also use those marks just to get a preliminary alignment on your new one. Just kind of put the new one on in the same position as the old one came off. Tighten these up enough so they still hold it, but you can still move it around a little bit. Position it where you want it. Tighten it up. Just make sure your cable goes in and just use your screwdriver again and tap it in. Now, your hood should close nicely and open.
Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
