Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this vide we're going to show you how to replace the ignition coil on this 1996 Ford F150. This vehicle has the 5.0 liter V8. This procedure is pretty much the same for the 5.0 V8, as well as the 5.8 liter V8. The only tools you'll need are a flat blade screwdriver and a 7/32 inch socket with a ratchet or a wrench.
Looking at the driver's side of the engine compartment, you can see the power brake reservoir and booster there. I'm actually just going to pull this tube out. You don't have to do this. This is just going to make it easier for me to film and for you to have a clear view. Your coil is right here. First you're going to want to twist here, and then there's a little tab right over here. Press that, then pull that right off. Then there's four bolts to remove. You can see I'm kind of laying down on the engine. Use a standard size 7/32 inch socket and remove the four bolts. Fast forward here as I just remove those bolts. Not doing anything else other than just some boring old turning of the wrench. Then there's just a connector right here. Pry up with the screwdriver. Disconnect that, and then the coil comes right up and out.
Reinstallation of new coil is pretty much just the reverse of the procedure. Put the coil in and put the connector right underneath and put your bolts back in. Try to start each one. Fast forward here, again. I start each bolt just with my fingers first, make sure they're going in okay. I make sure I start all four first, then use the 7/32 socket and ratchet and tighten them up. Reconnect it. I'm going to put this back on. Again, I just took that off so I could film. You don't have to take it off. Then, reconnect our coil wire.
