Hey friends. It's Lynn here at 1AAuto. Today we're working on our 2004 Volvo XC 90 this is the all wheel drive version and we're going to be doing coils. It's going to be super easy. I can do it, you can do it too. If you need this or any other part you can always check us out at 1AAuto.com thanks.
Okay, so we're going to use our Torx bit 30 and we're going to remove all these bolts that go down the cover for this. Once we have all those out we'll just lift up these plastic covers. That's what it looks like. We'll set that aside. Continue on here. All right, now we're just going to grab onto this right here. It's got a little flip do. Just flip that, lift up on this. We can get this out of the way. Grab this, bring it over to the side like this. We'll lift that up and now we've got a clear view of the coils and we can continue.
Okay, so here's what our coil is going to look like. That's where it presses down onto the spark plug, it goes right in there. This seals around the valve cover, that's the electrical connector port, and this is where the mounting bolt is. This sits just like this so that means that our mounting bolts right there. We'll set that coil aside. All right. So, we're going to grab this little tab right here, give it a little squeeze. If it doesn't want to squeeze and lift up that side of the tab just grab whatever you have handy and then lift up right there. Give this a nice little wiggle tug. We always take a look at our electrical connectors, make sure there's no funny colors in there. This looks great so it's reusable. We'll set it aside.
We've got our mounting bolt right here, 10 millimeter. That's what our bolt looks like. We'll set this aside. Here's our coil. All right. Take a look at it, it looks like it's a little oily. More than likely there's an oil leak that's getting down in there. So you'd want to take a peak. If there is oil sitting down in there you need to make sure you clean it out. It might also be a good idea to do a valve cover job on this if there is oil in there which it looks like there's a little bit of oil down there. So, we'll have to make sure we get all that out and theoretically if you were going to be keeping your car around for awhile, you'd probably want to get that oil out of there and reseal the valve cover.
So here we are friends, a quick product comparison for you. Over here we have our original coil out of our 2004 Volvo XC 90, all wheel drive version, and over here we have our brand new quality 1AAuto part. As you can tell both these parts are the same exact length which is very important. You don't want one that's sitting up super high or lower than the other. You have the same electrical connector, you have the same mounting hole, and you've got the same gasket going around here which is going to help keep moisture out from getting into the tube where your spark plugs going to sit. With all that said, I don't see any reason why this wouldn't be a quality part to install on to the vehicle so I'm going to go ahead and do it. If you need this or any other part, you can always check us out at 1AAuto.com. Thanks
Okay, so we've got a little contraption made here. We're just going to try to put it down in there and see if we can get out the majority of that oil. So, I'm just going to put it down in. It's just like being at the dentist, right? So we've got our brand new quality 1AAuto coil here. I'm just going to use a little bit of dielectric grease and go right up along here and that's just going to help the boot slide over the spark plug. And the reason for using dielectric grease is because it lets electricity flow through. If you use just regular wheel bearing grease or something else like that it's not the same stuff and you won't have good electricity going through from your spark plug to your coil or vice versa from your coil to your spark plug.
So, to continue we're going to take our coil and we're going to bring it down, put it right onto that spark plug down there, push it down, give it a nice little wiggle. We're going to put it in our mounting bolt there. It's our 10 millimeter headed bolt. Just get it lined up with the hole. That's bottomed out, just give it a teeny bit more and that's it. Last thing we want to do is crack this coil in any way. Last but not least, we'll get our electrical connector, push it on there. We listen for the click. I like to give it a little tug afterward. That feels good. The coil is nice and snug. Now we can move along and do the other four, one, two, three and four. This vehicle has five cylinders and five spark plug coils with five spark plugs. Very strange, welcome to Volvo.
Anyway, we're going to remove all the rest of these and replace them and that's it. There we go, get that so it's started in there. Snug that right up. We've got our electrical connector in. All the electrical connectors are in. We checked them all. Those feel good. All right, let's grab those plastic covers. You can get them put on there.
Okay, so we've got our cover and come right in like this underneath this tubing right along like that. You can see the bolt holes there. I'll take this cover. We're going to put these little [inaudible 00:06:26] into the slots right there, bonk, bonk. Put that down on there. Grab some of these bolts, the shanked ones. Let's get them all on here and then we'll snug them up. All right, so we're going to go back to using our T 30. There we are, those covers are down, down the road we go.
