Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace an ignition switch on this 2001 Ford Taurus. It's the same part and similar process on these Tauruses from 1990 to 2005. The items you'll need for this are a new ignition switch from 1AAuto.com, 7mm and 8mm socket and ratchet, and a T30 Torx driver or bit.
Start off by removing these two 8mm bolts. We'll just fast forward as Don does this. Now, just pull out on this panel, and it will pull free. Then, remove this 7mm bolt right here. Now, pull this harness down and out and remove these two T30 Torx bolts. Now your ignition switch will pull free.
On the left is the old ignition switch. On the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical, and they'll fit exactly the same. Ours also comes with a new adapter if you would like to replace that as well. The adapter is located right here. You would just pry that one out and push your new one in. You want to make sure that on your new ignition switch you have the switch lined up in the exact same spot as it is on your old one.
Then, you want to feed the switch right up into here. Just push it into place and replace those two T30 bolts. We'll fast forward as Don does this and then tightens them up. Reconnect this harness. Then tighten up that 7mm bolt. Line up the clips and push this panel back into place. Replace those two 8mm bolts at the bottom. Once you've tightened those up, you're all set.
