How to Replace Interior Door Handle 2001-05 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Watch this video for help replacing the interior door handle in a 01-05 Ford Explorer Sport Trac.

step 1 :Removing the Door Panel
- Use cloth rag to protect the finish of the door
- Pry off the door handle bezel
- Pry off the window and lock switch panel with a flat blade screwdriver
- Disconnect the switch wiring harnesses
- Pry off the panel behind the door pull
- Remove the bolts from the door panel
- Pry the door panel away from the door with a flat blade screwdriver
- Twist off the lock knob by hand
- Pull off the door panel
- Remove the door speaker fasteners
- Remove the speaker
- Carefully peel off the water shield being sure not to tear it

step 2 :Removing the Door Handle
- Remove two Phillips head screws from the door handle
- Slide the door handle forward
- Tilt the door handle to disconnect it from the latch rod
- Pull the door handle off by hand
step 3 :Installing the New Door Handle
- Tilt the new door handle on to the latch rod
- Insert the Phillips head screws into the door handle
step 4 :Reinstalling the Door Panel
- Carefully reinstall the water shield
- Put the speaker back into place
- Insert the speaker fasteners
- Twist on the door lock knob
- Put the door panel into place
- Push in the door panel clips
- Insert the door panel fasteners
- Push the door panel bezel into place
- Reinstall the panel behind the door pull
- Reconnect the switch wiring harnesses
- Push the switch panel into place

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the inside door handle on this 2005 Explorer Sport Trac, same as any '01 to '05. Tools you'll need are some various smaller metric sockets, small flat blade screwdriver, a putty knife and a rag to protect your paint, and that's all to take the door penal off, and then a Phillips screwdriver.

So, really, the hardest part about the door handle is taking the door panel off. We're kind of speeding through it here. If you want to see this in a regular motion or in detail, just check out our other videos, and you can see removing and replacing the door panel in regular speed.

To replace your door handle, you remove two Phillips screws. The handle, shake it, slip it forward, and that's connected back to the rod here, you just tilt it forward and slip it off. Okay, put it back on, same thing.
