Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a trunk support piston on this 2001 Volkswagen Beetle. We show you on the passenger's side, but the driver's side is the same procedure. The only tools you'll need for this are a flat blade screwdriver and something or someone to safely secure the trunk while you remove the piston.
The pistons are held in with two clips: one at the top and one down at the bottom. To remove them, you just pry out on the clip and pull it free from the stud, making sure that someone or something is safely holding up the trunk. The piston's free. Take your new one and just push it on to those studs, and you're all set.
