How to remove, install, fix, change or replace a broken Mass Airflow Sensor / Meter on 97, 98 Ford F150.

step 1 :Removing the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
- Remove the two 10mm bolts from the throttle body cover
- Remove the engine cover
- Loosen the 10mm bolts on the hose clamp from the throttle body
- Remove the hose from the air intake tube
- Pull off the clamp for the air filter
- Disconnect the two electrical connectors from the intake tube
- Lift the intake tube
- Disconnect the electrical connection
- Remove the cover from the intake tube
- Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector
- Remove the bolts from the MAF sensor with a 1/4 inch socket and 1/4 inch drive ratchet
- Remove the MAF sensor

step 2 :Installing the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
- Insert the MAF sensor into place
- Tighten the two bolts to the 1/4 inch socket and 1/4 inch drive ratchet
- Connect the MAF sensor electrical connector
- Replace the cover on the air intake tube
- Connect the electrical connector to the intake tube
- Insert the air intake tube into place
- Connect the two electrical connectors to the intake tube
- Connect the hose to the intake tube
- Clasp the air filter clamp
- Tighten the 10mm bolts on the air intake tube clamp
- Replace the throttle body cover
- Tighten the 10mm bolts to the throttle body cover

We'll remove this cover. Two 10-mm bolts on this side and one over on the passenger side, and remove those with a 10-mm socket and ratchet. Loosen the throttle body clamp with a flat blade screwdriver and just, kind of, pull up and down on the whole ducting. There are tubes that go in the side. Once you pull it off the throttle body, you can twist a little bit and pull those tubes free.
Clamp for the air filter--pull that off. And there's two connectors--one is easy to see here. Press down on the tab and disconnect. You may press down on the tab and use your screwdriver to pry a little bit to help loosen it up, and take those off. And then there's another connector, press the tab and disconnect. And the intake tube comes up and out.
Now, you want to pull this out, and then the tab you push down right behind this little loop, and it comes off. And here's the tab that you push down right there. And this Delphi version--pull it out--it's going to be exactly the same as the original, a little different case now, but it will work. And it actually comes with a torx bit, a safety bit that has the hole to remove these. We'd use a quarter inch socket and a quarter inch drive ratchet and remove the two bolts that hold it in, and it comes off.
And here's a new airflow sensor from 1A Auto, and here's the original one from the vehicle. You can see that the connections are the same. Looks a little different, but it's going to bolt in exactly like the original. Put it in place and then use your two screws to reattach, and tighten it up. Then put your sensor back in, reconnect the connection and make sure it clicks. And then there's just little slots inside where these tabs go. This little cut-out should align with that tab.
And then put your air intake back in place over here. The tab lines up there and this clamp goes on. Just reach down and make sure nothing's getting pinched, and lock that down into place. And your mass air flow connection--reconnect it. Reconnect this connector, and put this back in here. The tube down here, put it in, in there. Flat blade screwdriver to tighten up the clamp that holds it onto the throttle body. And put the throttle body cover back in place, and you just have to, kind of, move it around a little bit to figure out where the bolt hole is. I'm actually cheating--just looking right through here. I can there and start it up, and then push this side down into place and start my two bolts over here, and then tighten them up.
