Hi I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing or maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20 plus years of experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this, to show you the correct way to install parts from www.1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly, that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
Okay, so you want to remove your window handle, window crank handle. The proper way to do it is with the right tool. As you can see with the right tool actually there's a little gasket in here, let me move you in closer.
If you kind of pull out, you can see there's a little gasket right there. You want to get your tool in between there, and it comes right off. Now you can see the little clip, and that clip is down so those two teeth in there, hold on to this little grove in the mechanism. All this tool does is it comes in like that.
Okay, so I'm freezing in here to insert a little note. This design is how they've done it since window crank handles were invented, up until now. In my experience, whether it's a Honda, or a Dodge, or a Toyota, or a Pontiac, or Chevy, or a Nissan, if it's a manual window crank handle, this is how it's designed. The clip pushes up so you would be, if you have the correct tool, you would be inserting your tool underneath the handle portion. As you see in my jury-rigged way, If you're pulling the clip you're pulling from the area that is opposite of where the handle extends to. Now, on with the video.
Now maybe you are only planning on doing this once and you really don't feel like going out, the proper way to put this back on is to push the clip back down, put the washer on, excuse me, and clip it on. Maybe you're not planning on going out and buying a tool, because you're only going to do this once, so what you can do is take a paper clip; open it up; grab the very end with some pliers and bend it so you have a little hook. You want to bend it a little past 90 degrees. You want two of these.
What you're going to is you're going to push in. you have to get that washer out of the way. You have to put it in there this way first, and hopefully you have to get it there and give it a little twist. Okay, you are actually going to take the other one; can't do it with just one because you can't pull the clip correctly. You do need two. Get it in there, let's see what I got. Twist, and you kind of want to pull out like this. Let me show you that. You don't want to just pull it straight, you want to pull up. You can see the clip just flew out of there and it comes off.
You can do it right and buy the right tool of you are going to be doing it often, if not you can just use two paper clips like that.
We hope this helps you out. This video was brought to you by www.1AAuto.com. Your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the internet. Call us toll free 888-844-3393, with a company that's here for you on the internet and in person. Thank you very much.
