Hi I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how to video helps you out. Next time you need parts for your vehicle think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video we are going to show you how to replace one of the outside rearview mirrors on this 2003 Ford Focus. We show you the driver's side front. The procedure is basically the same for the passenger side front as well. The tools you will need are small and regular size flat blade screwdrivers, a T20 torx driver, a 7mm and 10mm socket. And you will need ratchet and extension. Preferably you will want 1/4 inch drive tools as they are smaller and there is one small space that you have to get in to when you are taking the door panel off.
Okay, on this door, first at the top corner you want to pull your trim out, okay. It should pull. This has already come off. You pull out and then it pulls back and off. Then you can disconnect this. This, take your small screwdriver and then you actually kind of just pry it in here on this side of the connection, pull it out.
Hey, I'm just going to speed it up here. For those screws use a T20 torx bit. Use your T20 torx bit and remove all of them. Okay, you want to pry this off. It's easiest to make it right here then back, pry that out and it comes right off. Okay, go ahead with the 7mm socket, the extension and ratchet. A 1/4mm socket actually works as well. Remove these two bolts. If you notice, I said 1/4 of a millimeter. That's actually a 1/4 inch socket works just as well as the 7mm socket. Now this panel actually, you reach right in here, pull firmly and then up here same thing. You pull firmly. Pull this panel out. Then this disconnects. There's a little tab, it's kind of back behind the wires, push that tab down. Pull that out. Okay. The tab that is right on the back, push it down. And the same thing over here, a couple of harnesses. They just have tabs that you press with your thumbs and pull out. It's disconnected. Now you can just take your panel, pull it out, and pull up and the panel comes off.
To disconnect your mirror harness, there's a little tab that you press in and pull it apart. Carefully pull off this insulator. In the door jam there is another T20 screw to remove. Now there is a 10mm bolt right in here. Take that off. Push this around through and push it through there and pull your old mirror off. Okay, here's my old mirror. New mirror from 1A Auto, just like the old one. The little defrost symbol is a little bit different but it's going to install just like the original. Take that shipping protector off. Put the harness through. Make sure all those little tabs are located, make sure they go in correctly. Just take our socket with the big bolt in it, feed it right through. Lean on it until it's tight. The screw that goes in, has the large washer. Take the little grommet off of our original mirror and put it on our new one, press it into place.
I'm going to fast forward a little bit as I put that insulator back on and make sure you reconnect the power lead to your mirror. Okay, I'm going to fast forward through putting the door panel back together. If you want to see this in regular motion, you can just check out our other videos. Hang the panel back up on the ledge, reconnect the mirror switch, reconnect the window switches and put those trim panels back in place and then put the bolts back in for the door pull. Now I'm going to fast forward as I take those two 7mm bolts, reinsert them into that door pull and tighten them up and then put the trim panel, snap it back into place. You want to put the top in first and then snap the bottom into place. Continue that speed as I just take the 7, there are 7 T20 screws. One goes in the door handle. The rest go around the parameter of the door panel. Put those in and tighten them up. Last but not least, put the little trim panel over the screw in the door handle.
