Hi. I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20 plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1A Auto.com. The right parts installed correctly. That's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we are going to show you have to replace the parking brake handle and cable on this 2002 GMC Sierra. The procedure is the same for basically any 99 to 07 truck or SUV Chevy or GMC that has this body style. The only tool you will need is a 10 mm socket and ratchet or a wrench and also a flat blade screwdriver.
Right up and raise your parking break. You look and pull it forward and there's a 10 mm bolt there and follow your cable and you can see it actually hooks in right there. It clips into that bracket and then down further is where it hooks in.
Use the 10 mm socket, ratchet, and extension. We are going to pull this forward a little bit. I'm going to speed this up there as I'm just removing that 10 mm bolt. You pull up on the lever and then pull the cable to the side to get it out. What I'm doing here is force the tabs. I'm using the screwdriver to push on the tabs and then pull the cable up and out. It's almost- Basically you just want to push on these tabs here and then pull the cable up and out. It's very hard to do without two hands and I can't fit two hands in there. There it goes. It just went back in there. I didn't really get one tab.
Here's my original one, and the new one. It's all the same. The graphic is a little different on it. It's going to go in both in the same and if you have a broken cable which is what happens on these you can see I've got a broken cable which is what happens on these, it's obviously going to fix your problem. As you can see mine is in fine shape so I am just going to put the original back in just to show how to reinstall it.
First you want to take your cable and come in right from the side. Put it on like that. Bring your cable up through. Walk it a little bit and push it down in. Now you take your copy cable has a little tooth on it and put that up and in. Then just put my bolt right into my socket ratchet extension. I'll just fast forward here as I tighten up that 10 mm bolt. It needs to be firm, but doesn't have to be extremely tight though.
We hope this helps you out. It was brought to you by www.1AAuto.com your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the internet. Please feel free to call us toll free 888-844-3393. We are the company with you on the internet and in person.
