Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the driver's front window motor on this 2008 Equinox. It's pretty much the same as any '05 to '09 Equinox or Torrent, and replacing the window motor on any door is a similar process. You know when you're window motor has gone bad? When the window quits working. Sometimes it'll quit going up first or going down first, and then it won't go either way. When you press the switch and there is no noise, no sound from the door, that's usually because the window motor has burnt out. The tools you'll need are a flat blade screwdriver, Philips screwdriver, a 10mm socket and a ratchet with an extension, a door panel clip tool or a putty knife, and a T30 Torx driver.
If you look, hidden behind your door handle, there's a Philips screw. Start by removing that. Then the front, you just pry a little bit with a screwdriver. It unclips. Then pull the thing off. Very carefully, with a screwdriver, start in the back on this piece of trim here and pull out. Then just kind of work your way, and eventually pop the clips loose. Then that comes out. Right inside here there's two 10mm bolts. Remove those. Okay, use a little fast-forward as we take those bolts out. You'll see us do this a lot with redundant steps in the video.
Okay, right up here, if you get your finger under there beneath, or use a screwdriver. Pull out on this panel. Then it connects to a little speaker. You just pull that connection apart. Take that down.
Now the panel's held in by a series of clips. A door panel clip tool's the right tool. If you only have a putty knife, you can actually see the first one. Pull the panel out of a bit. Right down next to that clip that you can see right down in there. Pull with the knife and the panel at the same time. Okay, I popped two out there on that one. Keep going down until you feel the next clip. Do the same thing. Then go all the way around. Just speed it up here as I work my way around with all the clips.
Once you release the panel on the edges, just grab the top firm and pull. It comes come out.Okay you want to carefully pull your shield back. This protects your inside of your panel from water, as well as it deadens noise. You just need to pull it back enough to get that window motor. The window motor's held on by three T30 Torx screws. I'll remove those. Now my motor comes out and disconnects there.
Now your window motor should pretty much, you have turn it a little bit just to get it to go in. Speed it up here again as I thread those in and use the T30 Torx driver to tighten them up. You connect that. Run a quick test. I think it works great.
Put the door panel back on. It's pretty easy. There are tabs that go in right up here, so you basically put the door panel on. You can peak back there a little bit. Guide it into place. Make sure you don't lock the door. Kind of punch each one. Get them all with a firm fist. Run those clips in. Two 10mm bolts. Put the bezel back in. The front in first. The screw, if you have a magnetic screwdriver, that's the best thing. Otherwise, just carefully place it in there. Tighten it up nice and firm. This panel with the front end first. Just peak in back here, make sure everything's going in okay. Make sure that's pressed in and goes into the panel. We're going to plug in our speaker again. Put it down on the door panel first, and you can see the clip right there. You're all set.
