Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the rear hatch or trunk support struts on this 2008 Dodge Caliber. When these go bad you'll notice, in colder weather, the hatch won't stay up. That's a good sign that they're going bad. We show you on one side; the other side's the same procedure. The only tools you'll need are a small flat blade screwdriver and someone to help you hold the hatch up while you're doing it.
Your trunk supports are right here. There's a clip at the bottom and a clip at the top. All you're going to do is pry these clips out and pull these free, but you do need someone or something to hold up the trunk. You want to make sure it's secure and safe before you do this. Then pry out the clip and pull the piston free. Then pry out this clip and pull the piston free.
Now take your new trunk support and pry out the clip and push it into place. Just push the clip in and do the same thing with the lower clip. Then, push that in. Then you can just repeat the process on the other side.
