Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks!
In this video, we are going to show you how to replace the rear hatch support struts. This is a 2009 Pontiac Torrent, same procedure for Pontiac Torrent as well as the Chevy Equinox, of this vintage. The items you will need include new hatch support struts from 1AAuto.com, a helper or a piece of wood to support your hatch, and a flat blade screwdriver.
You see we have our hatch open and we have a piece of wood running from the bottom up and supporting the hatch, and you can pull down and make sure that is in there good and the hatch is not going to come down. Then the hatches just have clips at each end that you pull out the clip and then pull the strut off.
You can see up at the top and then this one down at the bottom, or the top of the hatch. You can see here, I am going to pry. You don't have to pry the clips all the way out,. You can pry the clips and pull at the same time. I pulled the clip all the way out, then I pull off the support, and then the same thing at the bottom. Obviously again, make sure a helper or a piece of wood is securely holding your hatch up. If you take a clip out and you need to put it back in, usually you can do it right from the top. Push the clip into the slots, and once it gets started, then you just screwdriver or something to push it down the rest of the way.
New support from 1A Auto, and we do recommend you always do these in pairs, I am just showing you one side, the other side is the same. Put it on, make sure that it goes on and it clips on well. As I lift up the hatch, you hear the piece of wood fall, but then I clip the top in, make sure it is in there secure, and it is working properly.
Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
