Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to remove and reinstall a rear inside door handle on this 2005 Hyundai Elantra. Pretty much the same for any of this era Elantra. We show you the driver's side, byut the passenger side is the same procedure. The only tools you'll need are a small flat blade screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver.
Taking off the door panel, I'm going to pop out my trim pieces that cover the fasteners. This is one; another down here. I'm just using a flat blade screwdriver: two, three. I Located the door handle screw, the side screw, under the grab handle, under the grab handle, and the upper left. I'm taking out the Phillips screw that holds the bezel into the door handle.
We'll just pull the handle out and it'll slip right past it. Just speed up here as we remove the rest of the Phillips screws. I'm going to use my knee to hold the door open while I give a little bit of a tug to the handle, enough to get some room with my hand, and feel around to the clips. Just gently separate them from the door. Once those are free you can lift up. I'm removing the window switch harness. There's a tab on the top harness.
Remove the one Phillips head screw. With a flat blade screwdriver, disconnect your blue clip and your pink clip. Push one cable out. Top cable comes out through the bottom. Bottom cable comes out through the top. Then disconnect your clips from the handle. Slide your handle assembly forward. Pull out. Putting the handle back in, there's four aligning notches. I'm going to snap it into place, then push back to lock it in. Put the Phillips screw back in. Get my two cables, which then lock it in place. Bottom cable, snap. Pink, snap the cable in.
The door panel's going back in. I'm going to connect my harness. Rest the window seal on the sill. Push down. Make sure your holes are lined up for my fasteners, then give it, pop the clips back in. Going to start it from this side. Put the handle bezel back on. Again we'll fast-forward as we just put those screws back in and tighten them up. Trim pieces back on.
