Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the rear window regulator on this 1998 Honda Civic. It's the same part and process on these Civics from 1996 to 2000. We show you on the driver side, but it's the same procedure on the passenger side. The items you'll need for this is a new rear window regulator from 1AAuto.com, a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, and a 10mm socket and ratchet.

Start off by prying off your pull handle panel. Behind here, there are two Phillips screws: one here and one here. You want to remove this Phillips screw up here as well. We'll just fast-forward as Don removes those. Disconnect this harness by just pushing in on the tab and pulling it out. Then pull back on your door handle and it pulls out, and you just want to pry this clip off your door handle rod and then push your door handle down and out. Pry out around the edges of your door panel to release the clips, and then your door panel just lifts up and off. Carefully remove your water shield without damaging it.

Right here on your window regulator, you'll see these two bolts. These are what hold the window to the regulator. When the window is down here, that's pretty easy to access, but if your window is stuck up, you're going to need to use a 10mm wrench and reach down through the top of the door here and remove the bolts that way. Then, once you remove those bolts, you just take the window up. We'll just fast-forward as Don removes those two bolts. When the bolts are removed, you want to just pull the window up and tape it into place. Pull the clips on the harness from the door, disconnect the harness, push the tab, and pull it apart. Right here, you'll see there's four 10mm bolts. You want to go ahead and remove those and we'll just fast forward as Don does this. Once you have the bolts out, then the window regulator will just pull right out the large hole in the door.

On the left is the old window regulator; on the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical, and they're going to mount up exactly the same. Replace the two top bolts on your new window regulator, and you're going to just use these to hang the regulator back inside the door. Once the bolts are in place, feed the regulator up into the door and just clip those on as you can see right there, and then we'll fast forward as Don replaces the other two bolts and then tightens all four of them up. Pull the harness out through the door, reconnect it, and then clip that harness back on to that clip on the door.

Now, you want to remove the tape, and you want to apply pressure to the window when you do this so it doesn't fall and lower the window on to the rail. You need to angle the rail and line it up. You can see I'm just checking on there making sure all the holes line up. Now, you want to just replace those two 10mm bolts. It's easier to just put both of them in by hand, and once you get them started, then you can tighten them up with that 10mm socket and ratchet. It's important that while you're tightening them up, you'll see the rail will start to slide out, just make sure you keep it lined up.

Now, replace your water shield and make sure you pull the harness through. Replace your door panel. Just lift it up on to the window sill and push it down over the lock and into place. Just hit in the clips around the edges. Reconnect your harness. Put the door handle rod down to the hole on the door handle and then push that clip back on to the rod. Push your door handle into place and then slide it back. Now, we'll fast-forward as Don replaces those three Phillips screws. Stamp your door pull handle panel back into place and you're all set.
