step 1 :Removing the Ignition Coil
- Remove the two T20 Torx screws from the wiring harness
- Disconnect the ignition coil wiring harness
- Remove the wiring harness from the coils
- Gently pry the ignition coil up and out

step 2 :Removing the Spark Plugs
- Remove the spark plug with a 5/8 spark plug socket and ratchet and extension or 5/8 deep socket and stick magnet
- Check the spark plug gap to .032-.035 inches or 0.8-0.9mm

step 3 :Installing the New Spark Plugs
- Insert the spark plug into the spark plug socket
- Hand tighten to prevent cross thread or cylinder head damage
- Torque the spark plug to 30 NM or 22 ft/lbs

step 4 :Reinstalling the Ignition Coil
- Insert the ignition coil into place
- Push the wiring harness firmly into place
- Tighten the two T20 screws to the ignition coil wiring harness

In this video, we're going to show you spark plug replacement. This is a 2007 A4 with a 2.0-liter turbo motor in it, but this procedure is generally the same for a lot of Audis with different motors. You'll need new spark plugs from 1AAuto.com, T20 Torx driver, flat blade screwdriver, or, if you have it, the Audi ignition coil tool, a 5/8 spark plug socket with a ratchet extension, a spark plug gap tool, and a torque wrench.
Start out by opening the door and pulling the hood release lever. Then there's a safety latch. Pull up on the safety latch. Then there are two T20 Torx screws that hold the wiring harness. Remove those. Each coil has a little clip. You push down on the tab that's at the bottom of the harness connector. Some of them you'll hear a nice clicking sound and then pull the harness down off the coils. Use either the special Audi tool or you can just use a trusty screwdriver. Pry gently. Make sure you don't pry too much side to side. You want to pry straight up. Get the coil started and then twist it a little bit and pull it up and out.
In the cavity from where you removed the coil, you can see there's your spark plug. You'll want a 5/8 spark plug socket and an extension and ratchet. You could also use a 5/8 deep socket, but you'll need probably a stick magnet in order to pull the spark plug up and out. If you do use anything other than a spark plug socket, be very careful not to cross thread your new spark plug. You can see the socket has an insert in it, so the plug comes up and out with it.
We are just reinstalling the old plugs on this vehicle because they are fairly new, but check the spark plug gap, it should be at .8 to .9 millimeters or .032 to .035 inches, and put the plug into your spark plug socket, lower it down in, and always hand tighten it first to make sure that the threads don't cross and you don't damage the cylinder head as you're going in. Then tighten each spark plug to 30 newton meters or 22 foot pounds, and we're just showing you on one, but obviously you would repeat that process for the other ones, and then you can also get new coils from 1A Auto and reinstall the coil.
Push it down in firmly, and then push the harness on place, squeeze the harness and the coil firmly to get harness to lock into place. Then replace those two T20 screws, I just put them in place by hand first to make sure they get started correctly, and then tighten them up.
